I know what you're thinking: Favre's a Jet, and everybody wins? What are you on today Grewe, right?
Wrong.
Think about it, Favre walks away from a franchise that didn't want him,
gets a chance to start in a mediocre division with one confirmed
contender on a team that's been rebuilt this offseason with decent
weapons and a young and improving offensive line, and the media's
selling us on this is somehow a no-win scenario for anyone involved?
Did I miss something here?
From the Packers perspective, how do they benefit from keeping Favre in
reality? I know, I know, supposedly he's a better fit for the offense
they spent half the offseason redesigning to better fit Aaron Rodgers,
and really, who doesn't think a legend can't walk in two weeks into
training camp without missing a beat, right?
Right?
A trade was the best option for all parties. The Jets get a quarterback
who could turn them into a playoff possibility this season, and if
Favre gives them two seasons, all the better. The Packers move on
without losing their quarterback of the future and they get a shot to
develop their offense to be a championship contender in a year or two
instead of constantly being tied to a legend who can (and already did)
walk away at any moment.
And as for Favre, he's now in a situation where he can play for as long
as he wants. Who's going to challenge him? Kellen Clemens?
