Number 1 Cuts

By RaidenDAWG2

Admin at PSH and Browns Columnist

Alright, let's examine the casualty list, shall we?

Tim Couch, QB, 1999: Cut by Butch "Ego Doesn't Fit in One Building" Davis last June.

Gerard "Big Penny" Warren, DT, 2001: What was that saying again Gerard? Trade the penny, the rest is alive?

Courtney Brown, DE, 2000: Unfortunately, injuries were too much to justify the bonus...

Wait, what was that last name again? Mr. Cleveland Brown himself? The guy whose work ethic dwarfs the rest of the team? WHHHHYYYY???

Ok, I know why, over 30 games missed to injury in the last couple years, not the pash rusher we thought out of Penn State, etc. etc...

But still, this is the guy that was supposed to be the cornerstone of the Cleveland D for years and years, right?

Ok, I think I've made my point. In six years, this team has had three top three picks that will now play elsewhere, if at all, two lower first round picks whose very jobs are now, for all intents and purposes, up for grabs, and one bonified stud TE whose bones weren't strong enough to last a special teams play last year.

Hmmm....

Still awaiting our first first round hit, aren't I?

Alright, I'll do a little revisionist history here, and start making some changes year by year to the picks, see if this sounds better...

1999: 1st overall pick: Donovan McNabb, Pro Bowler QB who leads the Browns to the playoffs in year 2 with...

2000: Lavar Arrington, dominating linebacker who makes the Browns defense instantly better, along with...

2001: Richard Seymour, one of the better interior linemen in the 2001 draft, and gives head coach Chris Palmer another defensive weapon, then in year 4, it's offense again and...

2002: Clinton Portis, best back by far in that draft, and we passed on him. He'd be running behind...

2003: Eric Steinbach, great Bengals guard who we should have taken at 21, and finally, another Palmer weapon...

2004: Kellen Winslow Jr. Ok, ok, I admit we got ONE pick right...

Anyways, in that series of picks, Palmer keeps his job, Davis stays with the 'Canes and still loses the 2002 NC game to Ohio State, and I'm a very happy camper who has a replica Lombardi trophy from when the Browns won it in '04 sitting beside me.

Who ever said revisionist history wasn't fun?

Raiden's Non-Football Thought of the Week:

Outside the Dawg Pound

Plaxico Burress did the following, all in a week...

-Turned down a contract from the Giants to be Eli Manning's newest playtoy for $14 million in the first three years.

-Fired his agent, hired the guy who's responsible for that Champ Bailey Clinton Portis swap of a year ago.

-Claimed to be interested in playing in Philly opposite T.O.

And that's why, ladies and gents, it really isn't great to be a former Steelers receiver.

Wait, did I say receiver? My bad, I meant Steeler at all.

The Woof: Logo Contest

Alright, you've all been patient, and without further ado, here are the lucky entrants to The Woof: Logo Contest.
