    Brian Banks receives minicamp invite

Banks, 26, impressed Seattle coach Pete Carroll enough that he received an invitation to participate in a formal tryout next week during Seattle's mandatory offseason minicamp.

It's hard to imagine a player who hasn't played football since HS 10 years ago could be an effective NFL player, so I have a feeling Pete is throwing the kid a bone. That said, I'm rooting hard for him to at least make the practice squad and work his way into action in a few years.

According to SI, there were a few other teams (Chiefs and Skins were among the rumors) throwing him a bone. It seems the size and athleticism is all there, but still, the last football he played was high school football. Granted, it was Poly so it wasn't exactly 'normal' high school football, but high school nonetheless, and ten years ago at that. He never had that progression of strength of competition that college provides.

Still, even if he doesn't make the NFL right away, there are places like CFL or UFL or whatever the new league they're talking about is where he can cut his teeth. If he's good there, the NFL will find him. He's 26, still a lot of fuel left in an unused tank.
