Balico Suggs tears Achilles; out for at least half the season

The reports say that Terrell Suggs injured himself playing basketball, but he's denied that. Hope Courtney Upshaw has a quick learning curve.

This puts the pressure squarely on the shoulders of Joe Flacco IMO. Everyone has seemingly been sitting around waiting for Flacco to take that next step and develop into a QB who can carry the team and last season in the playoffs he looked like exactly that type of QB. I even thought he outplayed Tom Brady in their playoff loss to the Pats.

This injury to Suggs could be the type of back breaker that could potentially keep this team out of the playoffs next year. Without Suggs in the lineup offenses can key in on an older Ray Lewis more often. They're gonna need to make up that production somewhere else and the logical expectation would be that Flacco needs to up his game and play like the Flacco we saw in the playoffs last season.

Well Brady also had to play against a much better defense than what Flacco had to go up against with the Pats defense. Coaching and play calling was horrible in that game for the Pats though. I had started a thread about it at the time.

Regardless of what you think may or may not have held Brady back in that game, Flacco played absolutely brilliantly against Bill Belichecks defense.

Yes he played well. He did not play "brilliantly." That is stretching it quite a bit Phil.

Well nitpick if you want, I don't know of any one person who watched that game that didn't come away heavily impressed by how Joe Flacco carried himself and played throughout that game. Most felt that the Ravens were the better team that day and should have won that game and they felt that way in large part because of the way Flacco played.

I'd agree. I thought Joe played great in that game. I've also seen great games from many quarterbacks, what I unfortunately haven't seen from Joe, or Matt Ryan, or Sanchez, or Freeman, or Bradford or a number of other younger QB's, is prolonged great play.
