Nfldraftico Who has the most to lose?

Each year, there is a team(s) that is at a turning point. Which teams have the most to lose if they don't get this draft right?

Depends on who is looking at QBs IMO. I still say there is not one in this draft I'd trust enough to commit too. That said I'm going to say the Redskins. This draft will form the base for this team given they will likely have to drop millions in wasted cap money. They could be looking at a rooks to start at 7 or 8 spots next year to save money.

I'd argue that the underlying point of this discussion is critically flawed in theory and fails to achieve its intention. With the draft being virtually a 3-4 year project how can anybody have anything to lose by blowing 1 particular draft? Yes some teams have made some quick turnarounds by having an unexpectedly successful draft where they pulled in a player or two who contributed at a high level almost immediately but since most rookies contribute at the quality level of a highly rated backup its hard to say anybody has anything to lose immediately if the guys they draft don't perform up to expectation.

Case in point, (although I didnt know discussion could not occur unless it was undertaken without flaw) but at any rate case in point. The Colts needing a LT, like a swimmer needs to know how to swim....... faced with a decision in last years draft....Take one Mr Saffold whom they had graded as RT, and hope he could out perform their grade.....or take Best available player. They chose Best available player DE Jerry Hughes, which ironically played the only position where the #3 guy on the depth chart never got to sniff the field. Now, not a make or break situation because of how the season unfolded, but think about it, the Colts glaring weakness this season was the offensive line, if you exclude injuries which are a wild card element to the game. Now imagine if they were resonably healthy against the Jets in the playoffs would that have not at least given them the chance to make the 3rd and 7 hand off, and salt the game away?.....Well we don't know its speculation, and an interesting point of discussion, which is precisely what a forum is designed for, discussion.

    Dream,
It will be interesting to see if Snyder will let shanny make draft selections at all, but they do have many holes to fill. I wonder how close teams like the Raiders, Titans, Jags and others are, if a good draft could glean them enough immediate contributors to push them over the top?

49ers maybe? They could be just a QB away from being in the playoffs. Can we get a guy to perform like Sam Bradford? We'll see.

I think they are a solid QB away from winning the NFC West.

I think this is a make or break draft for the Chargers. They could potentially be losing as many as 5-6 starters this offseason, and will need to fill those holes. With 5 picks in the first three rounds, they have the opportunity to fill those holes with quality players. However, AJ Smith's drafting skills have declined, and he hasn't drafted a Pro Bowler since 2006. This could be a make or break draft for the Chargers if they hope to retake the AFC West. Rivers could be in for a disappointing prime of his career if the Chargers can't add some quality talent this offseason.

MrSlurpee What positions do you think they should aim for with those 5 picks? Are you talking skill players like wide out? or in the trenches additions?

Going to throw out one of tonight's participants, the Jets.

Their roster is mostly free agents, and we've seen the key to maintaining a franchise at a high level in this league nowadays is a player development process that focuses on the guys you develop. Of the four teams playing today, they have the lowest percentage of guys who they drafted (38%) on their roster, far behind the other three who are all around 50%.

It's a team that needs another solid draft to keep moving forward, especially with what they could potentially lose in free agency.
