    Irvin trashes Roy Williams again

Cowboys icon and NFL Network analyst Michael Irvin won't pick Dallas to win the Super Bowl until they bench Roy Williams.
"I won't take Dallas until Dallas has whatever it needs to stop playing 10 vs. 11. And with Roy Williams on the field, they're playing 10 vs. 11," said Irvin. "Now, if they put the young boy Dez Bryant in? You better believe I'll take Dallas." Irvin should get his wish before Halloween.

Man, good lord Roy takes a thrashing from ex Cowboys players and the media. Lol!

What funny days those were when the Cowboys fans in here would relentlessly stick up for the trade of Roy Williams and that awful contract that he got.

I never stuck up for Roy as a Cowboy, especially with what they gave, and you're right an aweful contract.

But seriously...why is this a story? I've heard this all day on sports radio, and it's just overblown...

It's basically like everyone is saying "WOW, Irvin isn't picking the Cowboys" is the main point.

BTW, if people want to think less of the Cowboys because of an aweful preseason(like it matters) then they need to at least realize that the ONLY starter that played well in the Preseason was Roy Williams, and according to guys that have spent the last month dissing the Cowboys locally, they've said that Roy's had surprisingly, one of the best camps of anyone in Dallas...particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

As you know Tex, I have very reasonable expectations for Roy(7-800 yards, 7-8 TD's or so), and by no means does that production warrant the bloated contract he has...but people are now hating on Roy just to hate on him.

He's not worth the mention...Irvin didn't need to say what he said, because we all basically know, and agree, that he's been a detrement to the offense to this point...that's not something new, lol.

    From one #88 to another...

Oh yes you did. As a matter of fact you insulted me several times for stating what you just said. It wasn't nearly to the degree of Hawkeye, but you got extremely upset about it quite a few times when I pointed out the obvious.

Roy will be a big topic for the Cowboys for as long as he's there because of what Jerry gave up for him and since he's made so many excuses for his failure to measure up to what he was supposed to be. Plus, when a franchise legend like Irvin trashes him to that degree, it will get talked about even if this is like the 3rd time Irvin has trashed Roy.

I think these expectations are very reasonable. If he can stay on the field enough he could possibly even hit 900 yards I'd say. To many other guys on that offense for defenses to pay attention to and cover.

Yeah, I don't know why Irvin felt the need to berate him like that at this point either. It doesn't help anything. But that's typical Irvin. A big mouth that doesn't ever know when to just shut up. I don't think that trashing Roy is good for his confidence right now and if he's such a big Cowboys guy he should be more worried about their success instead of muddying the waters on Roy Williams publicly even more than he already has.

I think it's more because a legend is blasting a player on his former team that plays the same position as him. It's much like whenever Terry Bradshaw says something bad about Ben (which happens pretty often), it is a news story because it's strange for a former great to be blasting the player currently playing his position. I've never thought it was appropriate for guys like Irvin and TB to be speaking out like that, and honestly I think in both cases it has more to do with the former player feeling disrespected because the new guy didn't take his advice than anything else.

Excuse me? Yes, I defended taking the risk to acquire him, but not how many picks they gave up. I even said several times that I would not have given up that much for him. As far as his contract, I refuted the notion that at the time, he was one of the highest paid WRs in the league (12th in 2008 and 21st in 2009). He’s still overpaid. Don’t drag me into this and rag on me because I choose to be optimistic that he can earn some of what they gave up for him back.
You had a chance........until we stepped on the field.

No, you are not excused. You really don't have a right to speak on this situation at this point, because you were Roy WIlliams biggest advocate on this site for two years and went way out of your way to defend that trade over and over and insulted me for it again and again and said how I was full of crap and all sorts of stuff, but you were completely wrong from the start and anyone who read anything you had to say on the subject knew that it was only because Roy Williams had become a Cowboy. Hell, you even went way out of your way to defend his play and work ethic in Detroit and numerous times and refused to believe that he slacked off a lot over there. You defended his salary and the picks and were overly optimistic because of the team he played for. At this point, just give up Hawkeye. You were dead wrong on Roy in Detroit and even more so in Dallas. The picks Jerry gave up were incredibly stupid and the salary was even worse. Just admit it finally.

I remember when Irvin tried to help Roy last season and he didn't listen. I hope Roy proves me wrong and has a great season, too bad I see Dez starting over him by week 6.

I'm pretty sure I've said this numerous times, but Roy Williams (from what I've seen) was never the work ethic role model and that was a primary reason he is only a gifted athlete and not a top tier WR. In Detroit he was being outclassed by Calvin Johnson and even some of our slot receivers were playing better than he was. He is a younger T.O. and I think he would fit better in Cinci...lol

Sure when he came into the league he was pretty damn good...but he doesn't work hard in the locker room and he doesn't train hard, therefore he gets injured or nicked up quite a bit.

I wish you could have been in here when he was first traded to Dallas and you could have seen all of the justifications for it and all of the "spins" on why it wasn't a bad deal and how it was all just the fact that Roy was in Detroit and that was the reason why he couldn't perform well. It was unbelievable and you'd think that a die hard Longhorn fan would be the one sticking up for the guy and I was the main one pointing out what a failure he was in the NFL, because I watched him like a hawk in college and in Detroit. What a lot of people didn't know was that Roy was jerk off at Texas and never worked that hard over there. It was just never out in the media, and you'd have had to have paid very close attention to inside sources of Texas to have heard about some of it. He treated Limas Sweed and Pittman like crap when he was the upper classman there. Him and BJ Armstrong both did and refused to even help them along knowing that they were going to be the future at Texas when he left. I paid close attention to him in Detroit and read several articles where his work ethic was criticized and his toughness was as well. He never brought intensity to the Lions either when he was out there. It was hilarious to me when Dallas fans were stoked to have gotten him.
