There Can Only Be One Awesome....
Why won't this idiot stop doing everything he can for attention?? I thought he was supposed to be focused again this season on helping to make his team a contender again. This guy is always so consumed with getting people to know his nickname, and his end zone dances, and the comments he makes. When he is ever going to be 100% focused on football. Everything Skip Bayless said about him was 100% dead on. The guy just needs to STFU and worry about helping to make his team a contender.
Didn't he disable his Twitter account?
"He’s so polite and talks so softly that he could tell Goodell to kiss his ass, and Goodell would smile and say thank you." ~James Harrison on Troy Polamalu
There's this video on nfl.com showing exactly that, with Palmer confirming that Chad's in the best shape ever. ( Video. ) Everybody has a different style in order to focus, some meditate and become very quiet, others brag and jump around. Chad is the second type; craves for attention and constantly wants to fool around, but as long as it's harmless and he's not complaining or asking to be traded, I'm ok with that. It's just his nature, I guess, you can compare it to a (Usain Bolt)².
Aaron Rodgers is my Favrite Quarterback.
And his style that you're referring to has never been a successful style for him. His talent has and that's why he's had success, but this style you're talking about is what's been his downfall his entire life. Most people aren't aware of this, but CJ has had problems with coaches his entire life practically. I saw a special on the guy a few years back and he was having all of these same issues going all the way back to HS.
To say that his antics are harmless, is crazy. That's what people said for years about him, until he started wearing HOF jackets after TD's, talking about what dance he would do all week long before games where he wouldn't score any TD's, and trying to do anything he can to find attention. His crave for attention has been a distraction to himself for years in the NFL.
I'll tell you a guy that's probably done just as many end zone dances as CJ has, but you never hear about this guy near as much, his team mates aren't having to constantly be asked what he might do, or what his mind state is either and that guy is Steve Smith. Steve Smith has been doing those silly dances for years as well. The only difference is that Smith isn't running around trying to get on every media show to talk about it or brag on himself, he isn't tweeting about it all week long, his Panthers team mates aren't always being asked questions about his antics to where it becomes a distraction, and it doesn't go near as far because Smith isn't an attention ***** like CJ is.
Hell, the guy just had a whopping 540 yards last season because his attitude was so bad, so don't tell me that his attitude and craves for attention has never hurt his play or distracted him from success, because it has a lot.
Now as for this year, I do think that CJ will bounce back and have a pretty big year. I do think that he realized that he wasted a full season with his stupid antics of trying to get traded and how obvious it was that he didn't care that much, and he's became an after thought in many circles, so I think he's wanting to get himself back out there again. But once he does, and once he starts getting talked about again, you better believe he'll cause more problems down the line again. That's him. He's been that way long before he ever made it to the NFL when he had problems in HS and in college.
While I don't have a lot of use for Chad's antics, Tex, you can't blame last seasons stats on him. Nobody will ever compare Fitzgerald to Palmer. And Chad was in fact injured for most of the year, but still showed up each Sunday.
The fact is when he's in this particular, curious, odd 'state of mind' he usually ends up playing in the Pro Bowl. I don't get it either, the antics, but thats been his history. Like you (or somebody else on this topic) I saw that bio pic of him, and the fact is this 'crap' is what motivates him, gets him pumped up to play at the high level we've become accustom to.
I wish he didn't need this stuff to get up for games. I find it embarrassing, just as I did the horrific 'Icky Shuffle' insanity, or the absurd 'Who Dey' chant.
But if thats what Chad needs to be a 1,400 yard, ten TD reception receiver in the NFL, so be it. I'll live with it. Cause this team isn't going anywhere without 85 having a big year.
What do you mean I can't blame it on him? That's ridiculous. The guy wasn't playing with heart at all last season. Hell, he completely dogged it in camp before the season and has admitted himself that "he wasn't into it." And don't give me this QB crap, because time and time again, we've seen great WR's still dominate with awful QB's. Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Roddy WHite and many others have. It is harder I'll admit, but don't try throwing Fitzgerald out there as an excuse for him putting up 540 yards. Yes, injuries may have hampered him a bit, but you could just watch some of the games and see how much he was dogging it. Fitzgerald didn't exactly stop HOush from having a bad season either. Housh still busted his ass and played as hard as he could. CJ did not, because mentally he was not into it.
And while you think it makes him successful, it also distracts his focus and makes him worse off at times as well. It's double edged sword for him and everyone else on his team that has to put up with it. At some point you'd think the guy would just grow up and focus on winning and that's it. That's what mature players do eventually. They grow out of that kind of thing. I don't think he ever will, and that's why he'll always be a problem to some degree. He needs attention. He needs people to talk about him, or he isn't mentally right. He needs promotion of himself and if he can't get the ball enough and there aren't enough positive things being said about him, his reactions to that in the long term usually aren't going to be positive when he's constantly seeking the attention that he does.
Why would that be what he "needs" to be or to have to be successful. You're now making excuses for his antics and poor choices just because the guy wants extra attention and doesn't want to be like everyone else. That's where you're really wrong. It's been proven time and time again, that when players act like that it usually hurts their focus and only annoys their team mates after while and causes distractions that they don't need. If he would just focus on football, and winning games and making his team successful, the attention will be there. THe positive feed back about him will be there. But with the constant "Look at me" antics and the "watch what I'm going to do next" antics get tired and old for everyone after while. Just focus on running your routes and catching passes at crucial times in games so you and your team can celebrate together after a win.
(roaring with laughter) Tex, it means a helluva lot more to you than I my friend.
Rant on....(cracking up)
Meanwhile, I'm just hoping he has a 'normal Chad' season. As I said, if he doesn't, the team is going nowhere fast - again.
I think that he will have a good season this year. Hell, I drafted him in both of my fantasy leagues this year, so despite what I've said about him here I've invested a lot in him fantasy wise this season so that should tell you a lot right there. He needs the attention and I'm pretty sure that he realizes that he'll only get negative attention if he has another season like last. He knows that Palmer is finally healthy and that the team has improved personal wise.
He looked good in pre season from what I saw. He seems to be a lot more focused this year and realizes that he made huge mistakes last season. I'd just like to see him play some football instead of worrying about the tweets, the end zone dances, and the one liners that he spends his time trying to come with.
