Asking price for Jason Peters: 1st and 3rd round picks

For the past 72 hours, the Buffalo Bills have dominated NFL headlines.

The league suspended Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch for three games, and star receiver Terrell Owens unexpectedly showed up for voluntary workouts.

The most important offseason Bills story, however, regards neither of them.

While cameras search for T.O. and questions swirl around Lynch's latest reprimand, contract angst roils again within left tackle Jason Peters.

To say trouble's on the way would be false. It's already here. More precisely, it never went away.

Just as he did last year by refusing to join the team until two days before the season opener, Peters still wants to be compensated like a franchise cornerstone and quarterback Trent Edwards' blindside protector

I think at this point the Bills have to cut their losses, and get what they can for Peters. I don't know why the Bills have been so reluctant to show him any sort of money, but he's fed up, he's been fed up, and right now might be just the time to let him go. There are 5 quality tackles that I'm sure the Bills will get at least one of at #11, whether it's Oher, Andre Smith or Britton. Let Peters go, you're not getting a 1st and 3rd though, settle for a 2nd and 5th.

I guess I can hold out hope that, by some miracle, the Steelers make a move for him.

Peters, and his allowing 16 sacks in 13 games wants to be the higest paid LT ever. (topping Jake Long's 1st overall contract, because he just happens to be a LT). 5yr 60m with 30m upfront is far too much to give a guy who has his injury history, and isn't a good run blocker.

Now if he were to ask for what Jordan Gross got (6 year 60m, with 30m in the first 3 years, but not guaranteed) it would be a little more palpitable.

eh, BBC, I'm not sure Peters is worth a 1st, a 3rd, and $11.5 mill a year (which is what he wants to be paid). He's probably an 'average' left tackle that will look better with better pieces around him but I'm not sure he's worth all of that.

I never said I'd want to give up a 1st and a 3rd, but he would be an instant upgrade over anything the Steelers have at just about any offensive line position.

ok, my bad i guess. i just thought responding to a thread that said the asking price for jason peters is a 1st and 3rd rd pick by saying, "I guess I can hold out hope that, by some miracle, the Steelers make a move for him" meant you felt a 1st and 3rd was fair.

    my bad. carry on.
