It might have been the most frightening injury report in Broncos history. According to head trainer Steve "Greek" Antonopulos, star receiver Brandon Marshall had suffered right forearm lacerations to "one artery, one vein, one nerve, two tendons and three muscles."
In regards to the impact on the Broncos' upcoming season, what can be scarier than an injury to the team's most gifted player that starts with artery and vein?
"You hear words like that and you're not a medical expert, your thought process isn't very positive," Broncos tight end Tony Scheffler said. "But he proved he's a quick healer, and he obviously worked pretty hard to get back to 100 percent."
As Marshall contorts his body this way and reaches back that way for a catch, as he squeezes the spiraled fastball thrown by his strong-armed quarterback between two defenders, as he tucks the ball between his right hand and rib cage while bouncing off tacklers, the Broncos should thank Dr. Richard Shure for making it all possible.
"You know, I kind of forgot about that," Broncos receiver Brandon Stokley said. "With the suspension, everybody started talking about that and you forgot what he went through this offseason. Anything with your arm and all those nerves, it controls your hand. And if you lose that, you can't play receiver because you can't catch. That's your livelihood."
