DAL Phillips leaves door open to benching Johnson

Quote:
Phillips leaves door open to benching Johnson

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Even on a rare "victory Monday," the Dallas Cowboys found themselves inching toward controversy. At quarterback, no less.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips opened the door by hesitating on whether backup Brad Johnson will remain the starter Sunday against the New York Giants in what should be the final game Tony Romo misses because of a broken pinkie finger on his throwing hand.

The only other quarterback on the roster is Brooks Bollinger. He's started 10 games in his six-year career, nine with the New York Jets in 2005 and one last year for the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings cut him after he went 6-of-18 for 62 yards in a loss to Dallas in the preseason finale, and the Cowboys signed him a few weeks later. He was the emergency quarterback the first seven games, moving up to No. 2 on Sunday, but has yet to take the field.

What are you left with though...Brooks Bollinger??? You can blame this on Jerry Jones. He went out and got Pacman, got Roy E. Williams, gets Tank Johnson, etc, etc. never addressed the backup QB. He saw him in practice he should have known Johnson can't throw more than 20 yards at age 40.

What, come on now, nothing is Jerry's fault

Brad Johnson never had a strong arm to begin with though. Titans are still winning because of a strong run game, and a stout defense. Kerry Collins has played well but his receivers stink. They dropped a bunch of balls yesterday.

Jerry is a moron, we should have added a QB in the draft or at least brought in Simms or heck even Leftwich.

Put Collins on the Cowboys with T.O., Witten, Bennett, Crayton, REW, and the rest of the Cowboys receivers and watch him do way better than no arm Brad.

seriously, I don't know how ANY 3rd string QB in the league could do WORSE than Johnson right now. Why NOT look at changing things up to try and get a better option there?

Heck, they probably have a QB on their practice squad that could do 10 times better than Johnson right now.

I think Josh McCown would have been a pretty decent backup. I think Bollinger will be better than Johnson. I thought he should have gotten a chance to start over Jackson in Minnesota.
