T.O.: Refs need to worry about getting calls right, not celebrations
Quote:
"You've just got to stay on your feet," Mike Pereira, the league's supervisor of officials, said in a telephone interview with the New York Times on Monday. (Pereira did make one exception: he said no player would be penalized on his watch for dropping to his knees to pray because "I do not want to get struck by lightning.")
There hasn't been any explanation why T.O.'s should-be touchdown just before the half wasn't reviewed. He was ruled down at the 1-foot line, and Marion Barber scored the next play, but T.O. is still pretty perturbed. T.O. put his hands up to signal touchdown and asked for a review, but it's up to the officials in the replay booth to stop the game with less than two minutes left in the half.
"Instead of putting the emphasis on my celebration, I think the league needs to put the emphasis on the referees making the right call," T.O. said. "Everybody knew that it was a touchdown."
