The Mock: Version 2.0 2010

Ooops. Someone let the Dawg out of his cage...again...which means he picked the lock on the lab, went into the Mockatorium, and came up with another blistering version of The Mock for your viewing pleasure. Here we go again, and where's that collar?
Back again, eh? Couldn't NOT check out this version of The Mock eh?

Thanks, I'm glad you're here, let's get started shall we?

    1. St. Louis Rams - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

So Suh me, I'm going with the obvious pick at the first spot...again...and here's why...it's the obvious pick, so can we move along? Right-oh.

    2. Detroit Lions - Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma

So I hear there's this tackle from Oklahoma that would really make Coach Schwartz forget about all those times he had to deal with Albert Haynesworth in Tennessee. They tell me he's the real...McCoy. I couldn't resist.

3.Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Eric Berry, S, Tennessee

Ok, here it gets a bit more interesting. The Bucs have a real interest in moving up for one of the two guys above, but they certainly wouldn't mind breaking this old dawg's heart and taking my favorite player not named Suh in this draft.

    4. Washington Redskins - Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma

I know they have this guy named Jason Campbell, who could theoretically be pretty good if he was ever given a real shot in the same offense in consecutive seasons, but at some point, you almost have to move on. This is that time with a new coach in Washington.

    5. Kansas City Chiefs - Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State

Assuming the offensive line wasn't the problem last year, what was? Well, with the arrival of Chris Chambers, a good not great receiver, the offense started to click. What happens when you add in an additional weapon? Hmmm....

    6. Seattle Seahawks - Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State

This is a rather intriguing pick, as it's the first one Pete Carroll gets to make in his return to the NFL. None of his USC Trojans are worth a look this high, and if the Seahawks truly think they can get a few more years out of Matt Hasselbeck in their offensive scheme, they may want to think about keeping him vertical for long enough to deliver the ball.

    7. Cleveland Browns - Joe Haden, CB, Florida

The Browns think they need at least two quality starters in the secondary out of this draft to really complete that defense. Joe Haden provides a potential lockdown corner to pair with emerging young veteran Eric Wright.

    8. Oakland Raiders - Taylor Mays, S, USC

I refuse to play nice with Al Davis until he stops making stupid picks in the first round of physical freaks who can't play football.

    9. Buffalo Bills - Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame

I've seen mocks with Clausen going anywhere from first overall to the second round. I think they're all wrong, he's going to Buffalo!

    10. Jacksonville Jaguars - Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech

The lack of a pass rush doomed the Jags last year. Derrick Morgan had nearly as many sacks (12.5) as the entire Jaguar defense (14) last season, and yes, I need a new statistic for next week in this slot.

    11. Denver Broncos (from the Bears) - Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama

The Broncos need a lot of things, stability on the coaching staff, a bruising inside linebacker, a wide receiver who wants to play in Denver, and an identity on defense. McClain starts to fix two of those problems right away.

    12. Miami Dolphins - Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee

Everybody's favorite fast rising big fella goes to Miami, where nose tackle is certainly becoming a need as their defense ages.

    13. San Francisco 49ers - Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma

Regardless of who plays quarterback for this franchise in 2010, the fact remains that they need to give him a bit of time to find Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis, and Josh Morgan. Trent Williams fills a big need at right tackle for the 'Niners.

    14. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver) - CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson

Again, if you're going to rebuild around Matt Hasselbeck in Seattle, you need weapons who can score touchdowns. That's been a big hole in the Seahawk offense, and CJ Spiller can help plug the gap by giving the Seahawks some explosiveness.

    15. New York Giants - Brian Price, DT, UCLA

The Giants defensive depth was challenged, and some would argue, broken in 2009. Brian Price is one terrific defensive tackle who can take some of the pressure off Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora.

    16. Tennessee Titans - Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida

I stick by this pick from last week. Oh yes, it still works.

    17. San Francisco 49ers (from the Panthers) - Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan

The 49ers have been looking for a top flight pass rusher for a number of seasons now, and haven't really found anyone to be "that guy" playing outside in their 3-4 defense. Adding a pass rusher such as Graham makes that defense that much better in 2010.

    18. Pittsburgh Steelers - Brian Bulaga, OT, Iowa

Ben Roethlisberger has been knocked down more than an aged prizefighter in the last few years, so adding a top flight left tackle is a no brainer.

    19. Atlanta Falcons - Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas

Kindle can do a number of things for this Atlanta defense, he can slide down and put his hand on the ground on obvious passing downs, he can drop back in coverage, and he can defend the run.

    20. Houston Texans - Earl Thomas, S, Texas

Second consecutive Longhorn defender comes off the board, story at 11...in a related note, Peyton Manning just become slightly more aware of the Texans' secondary he'll face twice a year.

    21. Cincinnati Bengals - Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois

Looking for a second receiver to take the pressure off Chad Johnson is a priority this offseason. Benn, when focused, can fill that need and make defenses think twice about double teaming 85.

    22. New England Patriots - Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma

I already used my Watson bit last week, so this pick just got a bit tougher for me...hmmm...stay tuned...

    23. Green Bay Packers - Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers

This would roughly be the second week I've given Whit Prowdy a concussion from his head hitting the ceiling upon hearing the news his guy Davis goes to Green Bay.

    24. Philadelphia Eagles - Everson Griffen, DE, USC

Again, I go with the underperforming ubertalented end to the Eagles. Why? Because I think they can do something special with him.

    25. Baltimore Ravens - DeMaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech

This is a bit of a gut feeling pick on my part. Getting a guy like Thomas who's hurt and very, very talented at this point after he reportedly ran a sub-4.4 40 time (Raiden's note: what's with these Georgia Tech receivers playing in run first offenses and then running times two tenths of a second faster than anyone ever thought they'd run?) is a big steal for the Ravens.

    26. Arizona Cardinals - Jerry Hughes, LB, TCU

Cards steal pass rusher, story at 11.

    27. Dallas Cowboys - Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland

No, not the Bruce Campbell who plays Sam Axe on the wildly successful show Burn Notice, but the monstrous Bruce Campbell who stands about 6'7 out of Maryland.

    28. San Diego Chargers - Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech

If the Chargers do keep Darren Sproles, Dwyer's a perfect counterbalance who can punch holes in lines (he's used to it) and continue to move piles forward. If they don't re-sign Sproles, they still need a running back.

    29. New York Jets - Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama

I keep changing my mind which corner gets to help defend the mainland in New York (since Revis already has Revis Island covered). This week, it's Kareem Jackson, next week, it might be you! Apply now by emailing admin[at]pigskinheaven[dot]com today!

    30. Minnesota Vikings - Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State

Even without a Williams retiring, the Vikings still need to grab a young guy who can fill out that role in 2011 and help keep the big fellas fresh in 2010.

    31. Indianapolis Colts - Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State

Direct beneficiaries of my decision regarding the Jets mainland this week: the Colts.

    32. New Orleans Saints - Alex Carrington, DE, Arkansas State

I stick by my gut feeling from last week. Yes folks, it's been six years, and I can finally have gut feelings again without wanting to rip Butch Davis' visor off and stomp on it for his gut feeling.

Alright DAwgie, up for a trade? You want Berry, I want Haden. So, Haden and a 3rd for Berry?

I know you aren't a fan of Pierre-Paul, but it seems like it's blasphemy for him not to be in the first round in mocks. Someone will have to like his pure athleticism and think they can develop him in the first, right?

I would have him there, but Al Davis only has one first round pick

I'm not a big JPP guy but he will likely be a 1st. Scouts are really high on the guy right now.

I don't think the Rams could go wrong with Suh at #1.
McCoy would be a nice pick for the Lions as well, but what about their pressing need at LT?
Why Berry to the Bucs though? Do you think they are down on Piscatelli or Jackson or do you think Berry would be moved to CB?
I wouldn't be surprised to see a QB go to the Skins as Shanahan will want to bring in his own guy.
I don't like Bryant to KC at all. He has talent, but his judgement and leadership has been questioned. I think there are better choices later on.
I think Seattle would be ecstatic if Okung fell to them.
Still not buying Clausen as a top 10 pick......let alone going to Buffalo. I think Edwards would be fine, but they need to beef up that line.
Morgan would be a good pick for the Jags.
I don't know about the Spiller pick to Seattle. I think Forsett is already the guy of the future.
Campbell to Dallas would be a good pick. You know the last time Dallas picked a Maryland player in the first round it worked out pretty well. =)
I like that you snuck Carrington into the first round. That kid is going to be a beast.

I've seen a few with Carrington slipping into that last spot. He could very well be noticed in this draft.

Wouldn't Mays be too close to a decent pick for the Raiders? Now if you had him taking a guy that should go 2nd or maybe 3rd round it would be better. I like Dallas pick and hope this is the year we finally get a stud first round OT.

Jonathan Dwyer is the player I've recently grown to hope the Chargers pick. You are right, Sproles or no Sproles SD still needs a RB, Sproles can't handle the bulk for the season (if he is back) and honestly, Dwyer seems to have the size and speed needed in Norv's offense.

I'd agree Dwer is a great fit in SD. They may have to trade up past Philly to tie him up thou.. With Westy gone I really have to believe they have their eye on him.

I'm really liking all this talk about St. Louis and Detroit shopping their picks, hoping Tampa can pick up one of those for (preferably) Suh. Just wondering if the Rams or Lions are willing to "only" trade to #3 instead of perhaps finding a trade partner in a team like San Fran, with #13 and #17.

      Who knows.
I think the plan with Sproles this offseason is to let him test the market and see what his value really is worth, if a team doesn't overspend for him, AJ will most likely match an offer and bring him back. But I honestly can't see AJ letting BOTH LT and Sproles go in the same offseason, it may be the first time I'd argue with what he's doing.

But I heard a rumor today about SD trading the #28 pick to St Louis for Stephen Jackson... which doesn't make any sense....

I don't see Philly willing to go RB THAT early with their expectations of McCoy, but who knows at this point, until the draft gets closer (and sometimes even then) it's really a guessing game on what we think teams will need.

He's their offense ATM, I don't like him, but if I were the Rams I'd want more than just a low first round pick.

But I say it doesn't make sense because SD would be picking up a RB that in a year or two would put them in the same situation they are in now.

As of this moment, the Colts could go DB or OL....both areas need help, we started the season with 4 capable starters at DB 2 rookies and 2 guys that you hope never saw the field defensively......by years end we had 1 of the 4 starters still uninjured 2 rookies one of which was injured and those guys you hoped never saw the field? They were playing in the SB....so I dont know if that is just being unlucky with so many serious injuries at one position or not, but having 8 DB's on the roster wasn't enough.....because we effectively lost 6 DB's during the course of the season.... The offensive line on the other hand the problem was that of frustration (2) high draft picks on the offensive line lost their starting status and (1) Tony Ugoh....acted if he was okay playing ST and being inactive for about half the games.......so although on paper we don't need O-line, in practice we still need a LT and RG......we will see how much importance Bill Polian puts on filling those situations but publically he was the one that denounced the 0-line for their SB performance....soooooooooooooo

Why wouldn't they be? Have you seen the numbers he puts up? He just finished the second most productive rushing year of his career and he's only going to be 27 when the season starts. There's no way I would get rid of that guy.
