Cal Prank played on 2 Star Athlete who "Committed" to Cal

Quote:
When offensive lineman Kevin Hart of Fernley, Nev., announced his commitment to California last Friday, he did so in front of a packed school gymnasium. Two local TV stations showed up to film the event as he prepared to become the first Fernley athlete to receive a full scholarship to a Division I school directly out of high school.

"They really sold me," Hart said. "Coach [Jeff] Tedford and I talked a lot, and the fact that the head coach did most of the recruiting of me kind of gave me the real personal experience.”

But it appears that Hart, pictured above with Fernley coach Mark Hodges at Friday's ceremony, was the victim of a prank. Somebody, it appears, has been impersonating Tedford. There never was a scholarship offer — let alone any official contact — from the Golden Bears.

This is awful.. Who does that? and how is the kid not smart enough to go look up Jeff Tedford and see what he actually looks like.

oh my gosh. That is completely messed up. I can't believe that someone would actually do that.
Tedford should let him go to camp and see if he can hack it. Not necessarily give him a scholarship, but, give him a chance.

He was pranked twice. Somebody pretended to be the Oregon coach as well.

Probably because he just did phone conversations. I talked to my coach for about 4 months prior to meeting him and he was talking about scholarships over the phone at that point.

That's just awful. His heart must have just crumpled when he found out the truth.

Also, just wondering since I don't know, but do two star recruits usually get a full scholarship? If not, that should've been a pretty big indicator for him that something was fishy.

Yeah, a lot of 2 star prospects are getting full scholarships. Miami and FSU have a few.

Yep, and if big programs don't pick them up, then MAC schools and lower Div I schools love to get them.

That was me, I scour local newspapers for small town high school stars and prank call a couple hundred of them every year after the Colts get eliminated from the playoffs to make myself feel better.

That's one of the ****tiest things I've heard of in a while. It's not just "Oh, he's not going to Cal" it has a lot to do with him stopping planning his college future, and then being way behind when he finds out the truth.

I would hope there are legal remifications towards the ones that did this. College application time is incredibly stressful, and this could make it much worse.
