14 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, a completion percentage of 52 and a passer rating below 65. There isn't trade value in a flash in the pan season.

When scouts around the league were wondering why we benched him and not Edwards...
Add in about half of the drops (and I'm talking the clear cut ones here) Edwards and Winslow had, his completion percentage magically jumps 5 points. Can't say for sure what that would do to his QB rating, but I'm sure it jumps a bit there too. Subtract three picks off tipped balls that went off those same two receivers... I'll be the first to admit the guy's not exactly playing with a full deck this season with the troubles at receiver, but c'mon, the guy has value. There's enough teams out there that will think they're a quarterback away that will look at his remaining cap charges (I detailed them in another thread) and think he's worth the investment. -RD

Yes, but the majority of the quarterbacks in the NFL don't have the guy who led the league in drops last season and is pushing for 20+ this season as well...
Put him in a situation where he's got dependable receivers and a decent offensive line, how much better does he look? -RD

They were weapons last year, and they were weapons this year too.
Thing is, both years, here's the fact of the matter: they drop balls. They drop more balls than any combination in the league, and both quarterbacks, not just Anderson, had completion percentages that were affected. My point here is this fellas, Anderson is a tradable commodity in this market. There are going to be teams out there, the Vikings and 49ers both come to mind in this mold, that think they can make the playoffs with a few minor adjustments. In this timeframe, there's one quarterback available in free agency next year that I'm aware of that could be an upgrade for those teams (and several others who due to retirements or other difficulties may go looking). That quarterback's Matt Cassel. For the others, a guy like Derek Anderson's intriguing. It's a thin class at quarterback if nobody declares (on the flipside, there's a plethora if everybody declares, go figure). Not a damn one of them is going to be "the" difference maker in year 1 for most if not all of these franchises, Anderson might be. If he is (like I think) not too terribly far away coaching and production wise from matching the season two years ago, he's a better bet if you're Minnesota and want to go deeper into the playoffs, and you've got a deep threat in Berrian, a great back in Peterson, and a solid dependable number two in Rice who can catch the damn ball. That's a pretty lethal combination there I think. They might be willing to give up a pick, hell, even two maybe if they're convinced he's an upgrade over Frerotte and Jackson. There's other factors in his play too, namely the absence of a dependable third down move the chains possession guy he had last year...what was his name...oh yes, Joe Jurevicius! Take the heat off the guy a tad, make him a guy who just has to move the chains instead of carrying the team on his shoulders because his supporting cast falters, he's got great potential. And have I mentioned he's only going to be (not is, but GOING TO BE) 26? We're talking about a guy that's got a long career ahead of him in the league still and plenty of room to grow. Final point, if Schaub (he showed nothing but potential in a handful of games in Atlanta) is worth a second, and Sage Rosenfels was worth a third to Minnesota last year (but not a second)...I think Anderson's got more value than at least Rosenfels did... -RD

C'mon Raiden, you can't place all the blame on the people around Anderson. This is essentially the same exact team they had last year, and yet DA has looked like crap just like he did before last season.
