Two 1st round picks for Quinn?

Quote:
Word is the Vikings offered the Browns their 2009 and 2010 first-round draft picks for quarterback Brady Quinn, but Cleveland, after consideration, said no thanks.

Economically, the deal makes sense for the Vikings in that Quinn, who is under contract for three more years after this season, already has been paid his signing bonus. And the Vikings wouldn't have to spend on the draft picks. With the trading deadline recently passed, the deal could be resurrected after the season. If the Browns won't relent on Quinn, they might deal QB Derek Anderson to Minnesota.

I got this from rotoworld, whom itself said it was skeptical of how valid the source is.

but if this is true, wow ..

well, if Quinn is their guy, then they need to play him and should have countered with Anderson. If Anderson is their guy, then take this deal. But being indecisive with their QB, which seems to be the case with the Browns for the last decade it seems, then opportunities like this are missed. The Vikings are desperate for a QB and are willing to give a lot, and the Browns have two

Really? Your starter's struggling, it's the middle of the year, your third string quarterback is Ken Dorsey, and did I mention you're fairly certain at some point some time fairly soon, you're about 50% certain this is going to be your starting quarterback?

He'll take a 5th for Anderson right now, but he'd be thrown out of Cleveland if he'd taken this deal.

well, wait a minute because I think there needs to be some clarification .......... was this offered in the off-season or just before the trade deadline?

I thought they were indicating that this was an off-season deal ...............

Even if it was an offseason deal, people keep forgetting that there is a reason why the Browns only offered Anderson a 3 year midlevel money deal. They recognized that there was a good possibility that what we're seeing this year could happen and they'd need to go to Quinn. Even if it was an offseason offer it appears as though it was a smart one to turn down regardless.

I agree it was a good move to turn the deal down unless they were actually sold on the idea of Anderson being their starter. It adds hypothetical value to trade Quinn for two first rounders, but the reality is that it then sets your team back years if they decide to move away from Anderson. You spend one of them on a rookie next year, who will be ready to test out in 2010.

Right now they already have Quinn ready to step in and see what he can do.
