BUF Youboty named nickel corner

Quote:
It’s official. Ashton Youboty’s status as a valuable cornerback has been reclaimed. After two trying years with injury and family tragedy, he has put it all together heading into year three. Named the team’s nickel cornerback coming out of the preseason Youboty is happy, but far from satisfied.

“I’m definitely happy with the outcome and just looking forward to the Seahawks and keep the production going and help this team win,” said Youboty.

Youboty was very productive during the preseason at a time where he had to be as the coaching staff added three rookies and a veteran at the position. He finished with 18 tackles, two interceptions, two sacks, one forced fumble and four pass defenses.

“He made tremendous plays in camp and in the preseason games,” said Donte Whitner. “Those are great stats for four preseason games. He’s really stepped up and he’s our nickel back now. He’s going to make some plays. He’s really honed in on his skills and his responsibilities there.”

Having been his teammate in college at Ohio State, Whitner always knew what Youboty was capable of. However, the first two years of Youboty’s professional career made transitioning to the NFL difficult.

“With Ashton the number one thing with him was he lost his mom early and hurt his hamstring so his rookie season was pretty much wiped out,” said Whitner. “So that year he pretty much spent the majority of his time on special teams and on scout team. He didn’t have the opportunity to learn the defenses that we were putting in each week.
Youboty named nickel corner - Buffalo Bills
seriously... I'm ecstatic for Ashton, at the beginning of camp pretty much everyone had it:

1. McGee
2. Greer
3. James
4. McKelvin
5. Corner
6. Youboty

talk about coming out of nowhere, did anyone even have him pegged to make the roster?

The talk I was hearing on Youboty was he was going to get cut. Looks like he heard the whispers and stepped up.

Corner did make the team, the Bills cut Will James... shockingly.

the Biggest thing to take from this is first round Pick Leodis McKelvin was unable to break into First Team defense. The guy you draft that High in the first round is a player you want to come in and make an Immediate impact at his position.

Leodis Didn't even manage to get your primary Kick\Punt returer job either (Proboally don't need McGee doing it)

Leodis was drafted 11th overall, Ted Ginn Jr (drafted around the same time)at least saw substantial playing time and would have been a productive punt returner as a rookie had it not been for holding penalties.

So for right now Leodis is the Bust Youboty was until he stepped it up this offseason.

look, Glass... Leodis is a rookie at a position that traditionally takes a long time to develop.

nobody was going to beat out Greer, that much was obvious... the kid is still going to see the field.

as far as returns go, I really think McKelvin should get the lion's share... and I don't think it'll be very long before he does at all.

rookie or no rookie, when you use a top 12 pick on a player that is a guy that is supposed to come in and be able to contribute. you got the 12th best rookie, he supposidly will be getting a contract that puts him just below franchise players at their position (they guy you draft there is someone you hope will be a household name for you for many years).

and it's not like Jabari Greer is THAT great of a CB, and neither is Ashton Youboty. It shouldn't be unthinkable that a high draft pick could overtake them.

and if all McKelvin winds up doing is returning the occasional kick then the pick winds up being just as bad as when the dolphins goofgrabbed Ginn. The Bills had some rather distinct needs going into the draft. they needed a true #1 CB that can go toe to toe with the Randy Mosses and Chad Johnsons in the AFC, instead they got a Dime Back who fashions himself the next Devin Hester and not the Next Champ Bailey. They needed another #1 WR, someone to compliment evans this year, and replace him next year. what they got was a possesion reciver who is nothing but size and anger issues. They needed to improve on the Kelsay\Denney Rotation, and could have used a Center or Right Guard.

I said it at the draft but the Bills Botched it by Not getting Sweed, and Mike Jenkins was flat out a better Cover 2 CB. If the bills are ever going to improve Ralph Wilson is going to have to go. He's almost as bad as the Fords who refuse to fire Matt "Mr. 52 WR pickup" Millen
