BUF BILLS EXTEND KYLE WILLIAMS

Quote:

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to a three-year contract extension with defensive tackle Kyle Williams, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.

Williams is now under contract through 2012. The contract has a maximum value of $14.5 million and it includes $5.7 million in guaranteed money.

A two-year player, Williams started every game in 2007, and eleven of 16 in 2006 as a rookie.

Williams was the first pick in the fifth round of the 2006 draft, had he had been under contract through 2009, at base salaries of $445,000 and $530,000, respectively, over the next two seasons.

the Bills are doing great at extending great young players.

but it's really time to take care of Jason Peters.

no Jason Peters has 3 years left on his deal. To extend him now would play hell on our cap. Let him have more than one full year at a position before we declare him a franchise player.

he has 24 games at left tackle... that's plenty of time to say he's a franchise player.

he has ALL the leverage.

I think it's fair to say he's deserving to be higher than the 3rd highest paid offensive lineman on the Bills. The sooner they take care of a long term contract, the better... the market is only going to keep going up.

but fine, if you want to hold off... the Bills can expect the market for franchise LT's to be what? about 14 million a season by the time he get's a new deal?

wouldn't you rather lock him in at 7 or 8 million for the next 6 years and get it over with?

Hate to break it to you but 1.5 seasons at a position is hardly enough time to consider ANYONE at any position a Franchise player.

And while it's fair to say he's deserving to higher than the 3rd highest paid offensive lineman on the bills. He should have thought about that before signing a contract 2 years ago. And Holding out isn't the way to get his new contract, His timing is really off too. The Bills have had more pressing concerns contract-wise. We need to get Lee Evans inked long-term before he walks at the end of the season.

Personally I blame our front office for this situation. Langston Walker and Derrick Dockery were not worth the money we threw at them. and to be totally honest Butler has done nothing to deserve a new deal either.
