W. Michigan could play Michigan St. at Ford Field

Quote:
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) -- Western Michigan's athletic department says it's in talks with Michigan State about a possible football game between the schools at Ford Field during the 2009 season.

The Broncos say Saturday that nothing has been finalized, but details could be released this summer.

Western Michigan is hosting Illinois Nov. 8 at Detroit's Ford Field, which is the home of the NFL's Lions.

Western Michigan sucks, but I guess the proximity of Kalamazoo to Lansing makes it appealing. Central would be a much better opponent though.

Western Michigan sucks
Not so fast my friend……..I think WMU is better than people think. The MAC is pretty balanced overall and I think most every team has won at least one conference title over the last 20 years, so there really isn’t a dominant team year in and out with huge name recognition (maybe Miami of Ohio). With that said, WMU has a better record over the last 10 seasons (58-59) than CMU (50-68). While CMU has won two titles, and played in two bowls, WMU appeared in two title games with one of those a loss to an undefeated 13-0 Marshall team. WMU just played in a bowl after the 2006 season behind the strength of the #11 defense in the country. With what…..like seven starters returning on that defense last year and Mark Bonds and Brandon West at tailback and Tim Hiller at QB, they should have been better. They got whaled against WVU and Missouri whereas had they played teams like UAB or something, they might have made a bowl. Three losses in MAC play were by a combined 8 points (Akron by 1, Ball State by 4 and CMU by 3). They beat CMU and either of the other two, and they are in the MAC title game instead of CMU. Granted that’s not how it turned out, but this year, there is no reason to think they won’t be in the thick of the title hunt.

We're Central fans so yeah Western can go away.

Now a Michigan State vs Central Michigan game would probably be a sell out but I'm not quite sure that the Western fans would make the trek over to Detroit. CMU fans are used to it since the MAC title game and Motor City Bowl are held there.

Oh, I'm not trying to take anything away from CMU. They have been pretty good the past two years and they should be again this year. I just expect a little more fire from WMU and maybe a serious run at the title.

As far as traveling goes, I was surprised to see a good number of WMU fans make the trek to Iowa for the game last year.
