Osu Beanie: 'I plan on being here four years'

Quote:
Ohio State tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells, coming off the top sophomore rushing season in school history, said after a spring practice this afternoon that he intends to remain in school for the long run.

There has been speculation that Wells, who racked up 1,609 yards last season while establishing his name as Heisman Trophy candidate for 2008, might choose to leave for the NFL after three seasons at OSU. When asked whether he could see this being his last season at OSU, though, he was adamant with his answer.

"No, it's not going to be my last year," Wells said. "I plan on being here four years."

I'll be honest - a comment like that pretty much guarantees that he'll be leaving early

Haha yeah, let's see if he feels that way after he is one of the top rushers in the nation and all of a sudden because of last year's massive flocking of RBs to the draft, he is one of the top guys available.

Yeah lots of players have said that........and then left early. I don't put much stock in a quote like that before the start of his junior year.

Crowd chanting "One more year, One more year!"
Carmello Anthony " I thought you went to school for four years"
Crowd explodes with cheering

Months later

David Stern "With the third pick of the NBA draft the Denver Nuggets select Carmello Anthony"

We'll see what Wells thinks about staying when he's shown the money.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if Beanie left after having a fantastic season. It makes sense. RB careers are short and he'll most likely be the top of one of the top RBs available. No one would begrudge him if he did.

However, at the same time, with so many OSU juniors opting to stay this past season, if the team doesn't win it this year there is a chance Beanie does stay.

How do you expect him to answer this question though? "Absolutely I am leaving, I want my money and I want to be in the NFL. No way am I staying."
I swear journalists ask some of the dumbest questions. IMO he would be foolish not to plan on it, because you never know what is going to happen. He may break his leg halfway through the year and be done, but he isnt planning on it. So yes he is planning on staying there for four year, but if something better comes up, you take it, and he will take it.

Here's the thing, his mom had some about two weeks ago that this season might be his last. Beanie was responding to that.
