Cuse McNabb may have role in next Syracuse hire

Quote:
If Syracuse ends up changing coaches, I'm told former Orange quarterback Donovan McNabb will play a big role in the selection process.

There seems to be no doubt that if Syracuse parts ways with coach Greg Robinson, the school will pick a coach with an offensive background. Figuring that, expect McNabb to make a push for Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

This is wrong on so many levels. MM proved that he is not HC material and bringing him in to revitalize Syracuse is not the answer. He has no proven experience at the college level and no strong ties to recruiting hotbeds.

Syracuse's defense in past years has been as bad as the offense and I think they should start there. Dan McCarney would be a great fit. He knows how to build a program and did pretty well with the Big 12's smallest budget. He recruited well in Texas while there and now he has ties to Florida.

Wally Burnham has done a good job building the USF defense into a solid unit and he has strong ties to Florida.

Bud Foster at VT would be the ultimate get as a HC though.

If they absolutely want to go offense, there are a lot better guys than MM.

Major Applewhite was the QB coach for Syracuse in 2005, so he knows the area. He's worked and played in Texas, so he has ties there. He built a pretty good offense at Rice in 2006.

Ron Spence from Clemson is another guy that comes to mind as a good candidate.

He's a respected alumnus and they may want his opinion. I don't think a former player is necessarily ready to judge a good coaching candidate at any college, but they are holding McNabb up as someone knowledgeable of the "kind" of person Syracuse should hire.

It's obvious that they don't know what they are doing, but we've known that since they fired Pasqualoni.
