Cincyu Mauk awaiting NCAA Eligibility decision

Quote:
CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati quarterback Ben Mauk has provided the NCAA with more information about his surgically rebuilt passing shoulder, hoping to get another season of eligibility to play for the Bearcats.

Mauk overcame a career-threatening injury while leading the Bearcats to a No. 17 final ranking, the best finish in school history. With Mauk running a spread offense, the Bearcats finished 10-3, including a 31-21 victory over Southern Mississippi in the PapaJohns.com Bowl.

"I want to come back," Mauk said Tuesday in a phone interview. "I'm excited about what we can do next year. I think the numbers we put up this year can be a lot higher next year."

Whether he gets the chance will depend upon whether the NCAA counts his final season at Wake Forest toward his eligibility.

I believe Mauk is 23.

I hope he's allowed to come back and play another season but even if he isn't the Bearcats have some depth at quarterback. Dustin Grutza played very well when Mauk missed time this past season. He would more than likely be the starter if Mauk is denied by the NCAA.

I don't know about that...remember, the Cats picked up former Notre Dame quarterback Demitrious Jones.

No he doesn't since he enrolled at UC before classes started since they're on quarters.

That played a huge role in him coming here. UC classes usually don't start until weeks after eveeryone else is in class already.

I haven't forgotten about Jones. I think that if Mauk isn't allowed to come back, Grutza would have the inside track for starting next season, only because he's more experienced and will be a senior. Jones has more upside though. No matter who they decide to start it should be a very interesting competition to determine who wins that job.

Update:Mauk Denied 6th Season

Quote:
CINCINNATI (AP) - The NCAA turned down Cincinnati quarterback Ben Mauk's request for another season of eligibility, a major setback for the up-and-coming Big East team that finished with a No. 17 ranking.

I'm disappointed but not really surprised by the decision. I was hoping that the redshirt season and the season lost to injury would have worked in his favor.
