Big East St. X Star Explains Choice

Quote:
St. Xavier senior running back Darius Ashley has made an oral commitment to play football at the University of Louisville.

Ashley said he called Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe on Monday night to make it official.

"They have a high-powered offense and they're just a power team, which I like," Ashley said today.

Ashley, rated the No. 14 all-purpose back in the country by Rivals.com, said his final two choices were Louisville and Virginia. He said he received more than 30 offers from Division I colleges and that he pared his original list to Louisville, Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, Boston College, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

This could have serious implications on two other St. X players as well. Stephon Ball and Greg Scruggs are Darius' best friends and are both being recruited by big schools as well. Congrats to Darius.

How come he never considered Ohio State or Cincinnati? Did he want to get out of the state?

OSU never offered because they had Devoe Torrence coming in this year as well as another RB, plus Beanie Wells (Soph.), Brandon Saine (Fresh.), and a couple other freshman.

As for Cincinnati, I think they offered him, but U of L's offense seems to fit him better. They don't run that Bearcat offense where UC just throws it around so much that the run game is secondary.

He might also have wanted to get out of Cincinnati.
