Pittsburgh T Pinkston out for season

PITTSBURGH (TICKER) -- Pittsburgh offensive tackle Jason Pinkston has been shut down for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury, coach Dave Wannstedt announced Monday.

A sophomore, Pinkston is scheduled to undergo surgery this week after suffering the injury in the Panthers' 17-13 loss at Michigan State on September 15.

The 6-4 Pittsburgh native did not appear in Pittsburgh's last two games and was shut down because he is eligible for a medical redshirt.

"After evaluating Jason's shoulder the last two weeks, it was decided it would be in his best interest to undergo surgery this week," Wannstedt said. "This will allow him to take advantage of a medical redshirt and get him started sooner on the rehabilitation process.

"We share Jason's disappointment that he will have to miss the season but look forward to his healthy return for 2008."
