QB Troy Smith to start vs. St. Louis

Smith will get the start for the second week in a row. Coach Harbaugh said they have seen what Boller can offer, he does have 42 starts. Smith only has two. Smith will get the start but it doesn't necessarily mean he is in the lead for this race (although he could be).

What do you guys think of the Ravens QB situation? Thoughts? Discuss.

I don't think they'd be losing anything by handing the reigns to Troy Smith for the year and seeing where he takes them. We already know what Kyle Boller is and it isn't good enough. They're pretty certain that Flacco is going to be their future at some point but if hes not ready to play then he isn't ready to play.

Troy was able to breathe a little bit of life into the Ravens in spot duty late last season. Give the kid a go and see if you can get any value out of him.

I totally agree EP. My question is why on earth would they even bother thinking about going with Boller at this point? He's proven time and time again that he isn't worthy of being a starter and is terrible.

At least now, Troy Smith gives you some running plays to help out along with being a pretty good passer. I think that he gives the Ravens a much better chance to win. You never know, he might impress more than what people think and they could get some value for him.

The one thing that concerns me about Troy Smith on this team is his legs.

Everyone knows hes a mobile guy who can produce with his legs but he's not a dominating scrambler, hes more of a designed run kinda guy. When things break down around him he's not a great freelance runner. He can run into alot of sacks and take big yardage losses unless hes got clearly defined lanes in front of him. Remember the national title game?

The Ravens have a bad o-line thats progressively getting worse. I haven't seen them yet this season so I don't know what kind of blocking schemes Harbaughs instituting there but they're gonna have to find ways to get this guy out of the pocket on rollouts and bootlegs and stuff to maximize his mobility and minimize the time he'll spend behind a bad line.

We've been saying it since last season...I agree with you. There's nothing to lose in letting Troy Smith get the start, and then letting him go on September 7th. Boller's had his chances, and has blown them time and time again.

I don't doubt Smith's legs. He's certainly better at scrambling and gaining yards than the average starter in this league, and that's saying something.
