BAL Joe Flacco

Does the Ravens wait for a franchise quarterback end here? The organization that won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer has been on a quest to find one, and has tried many, from Jim Harbaugh (the brother of the current coach) to Stoney Case, to Elvis Grbac to Kyle Boller and to Steve McNair. Does Flacco have what it takes to lead this franchise behind center?

I think Flacco is the future, but I don't know how I feel about him starting this year. What about Troy Smith, where does he come into play?

I think Troy Smith and Kyle Boller battle it out for the starting job. My guess is Flacco won't play this year at all. Cam Cameron was forced to play Beck last year just to try and see if it would help the Dolphins get a win but I think if he had his choice he would have never played him. He sat Phillip Rivers for two years (of course he had Drew Brees in front of him) so I think he will be patient with Flacco.

I think Boller will start, Smith will be backup and Flacco will be 3rd string next year. Which really won't help Flacco learn the playbook but it will get him adjusted to the speed of the game and taking snaps under center.

I think they might as well let Troy Smith start... see what you have in this guy. Boller is a backup and they already know what he brings to the table. It'll be a joke if Flacco plays this year with those guys in front of him.

If I were the Ravens, I would let Smith start the season. If the season is going nowhere by Week 12, and Smith has not proved anything, then I would then put Flacco in to finish the last four games of the year.

I think his future is bright, if the team develops him right. Very important in this is Cam Cameron staying the OC. He'll need consistency all around.

Indeed, and anyone looking at what inconsistency at offensive coordinator can do to a young quarterback, look no further than Tim Couch or Alex Smith...

Good points guys. I don't know why the Ravens resigned Boller through this year

Even if they were planning on drafting a guy high and developing him, kind of makes sense just to have a guy to keep around who you don't mind trotting out there to take the beating instead of the kid...learning from the Tim Couch and David Carr experiments
