BAL McNair retiring after 13 seasons

Quote:
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP)—Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair is retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons.

McNair told teammates of his decision during an emotional meeting Thursday morning before the launch of coach John Harbaugh’s first minicamp.

The 35-year-old McNair led the Ravens to a 13-3 record in 2006, his first season in Baltimore after 11 years in Tennessee. But groin, back and shoulder injuries limited him to six games in 2007. He threw just two touchdown passes while losing seven fumbles and throwing four interceptions as the Ravens struggled to a 5-11 record.

McNair led Tennessee to the Super Bowl in 1999, where the Titans lost to the St. Louis Rams. He was named co-MVP of the league in 2003, sharing the award with Peyton Manning.

Well, that leaves (barring a draft pick) Kyle Boller and Troy Smith to contend for the starting job...can't fault McNair for retiring here, he's had a long and solid career.

I really thought he'd stay 1 more year. Guess the injuries just caught up with him. I wish him well in his retirement.

That's the smart move. His body has taken an absolute beating over the years. He probably didn't want to have to learn a new system, adapt to a new coach and tutor a new guy... it makes sense. I wish him well, and i hope he's healthy enough to enjoy retirement.

He said he played for the team, not himself. The only reason he retired was because his body couldn't move on. Mentally he was ready, but not physically.

I'm glad McNair finished his career out in Baltimore. We had some good memories in these short two years, mostly good ones.

Best wishes, McNair.

Maybe we should take McNair's head and put it on Brett Favre's body.

Something tells me he's going to be a coach. I can see him going back to Alcorn St to be a coach some day.

Two QBs from Mississippi retiring in the same season

McNair's has always been a class act and a great player, I wish him the best.

Will go down as one of my top 15 favorite QB's of all-time. Played in a little Mississippi school called Alcorn State and went on to become the face of the Titans franchise. Probably not a first-ballot HOF'er but will be there eventually.

Honestly, I don't think he makes the hall of fame, and I don't think he should. What did he honestly do that was that amazing that it deserves enshrinement?
