Ogden to Ravens: "Proceed as if I'm retiring"

Quote:
Reiterating that he is leaning toward not coming back, Jonathan Ogden said the Ravens "know to proceed with their offseason plans as if I'm retiring."

Ogden, an 11-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle, has contemplated retirement since last offseason because of a hyperextended big toe. He didn't play in the Pro Bowl this year because of the injury. The Ravens likely need a decision from Ogden before the NFL draft at the end of April.

"I have not officially retired," Ogden told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "So if I come back, it's great, they said, but they're proceeding as if I'm not."

Is QB still more pressing than finding another franchise LT? Just asking a question here.

If Clady falls to them and Ryan is gone...it would make sense to pick Clady. Flacco or Brohm might still be on the board when they pick in the second. Either way...this draft is pretty deep at tackle so they should be able to pick up both on the first day of the draft.

I don't think the Ravens have any plans on drafting a OT in the first round. So a franchise LT won't be coming in this year. It's not easy to fill the shoes of Ogden you know.

Right now the Ravens are eying 3 different players; one QB, one CB, and one DT.

it's going to be a lot harder to replace Ogden than anyone else on this team...I'd get a new OT before a QB.

i'm with you ............. in fact, much of the problems for this team the last few years have been with the o-line ......... they need some help and need to start re-building it.

They have already started rebuilding it and they had problems because all the guys were young. It's not like you can get an instant fix just because you draft a tackle in the early 1st.

I love Grubbs and i think the Yanda could be a good RT, but they kinda need everything else.

I think the window for this team to win lasts as long as Todd Heap does. but in that time they need new receivers, a new QB, 3 new starting Olinemen, a DE/DT to replace Pryce, 2 ILB's a LOLB, new CB's and a saftey to groom behind Ed Reed. That's a lot.

Ogden leaning toward retirement

Quote:
If the Ravens are heeding Ogden's advice, they are not planning to have the 11-time Pro Bowl left tackle in their lineup this season.

A hyperextended big toe has bothered Ogden since last offseason, the Baltimore Sun reported. The Ravens' first-ever draft pick in 1996, Ogden said the Ravens "know to proceed with their offseason plans as if I'm retiring."

Ogden told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he has not officially retired. His toe has not healed to his liking.

"I can still play, but ... I don't want to play if I can't play at the level I'm capable of playing at."
^^^ Do these big time players realize that that even if there not use to playing at a Level there use to playing at, that is still better than 75% of the guys playing his position

Well, yeah, except in his case, injuries have kept him off the field, and which would be better, Ogden at 75% in 8-12 games, or someone else at 100% and building towards the future in 16...
