ATL Vick thinks he'll play in 2009

Or at least his lawyers are saying he does...

Quote:
In paperwork filed in connection with pending federal bankruptcy proceedings, the lawyers for Falcons quarterback Mike Vick indicate that Vick intends to return to the NFL after being released from prison next year.

“The Debtor has every reason to believe that upon his release, he will be reinstated into the NFL, resume his career and be able to earn a substantial living,” Vick’s lawyers wrote.

Though we lawyers are known from time to time to engage in a little hyperbole in the name of helping advance a client’s interest, the insertion of the clause “every reason to believe” seems to be a bit over the top, even as we lawyers go.
ProFootballTalk.com - VICK APPARENTLY THINKS HE’LL PLAY IN 2009

Heh...his lawyers must have hooked up with his brother if you catch *cough my drift...

He's going to be 29 years old next year, and assuming the NFL keeps him out for at least a year (which is going to be generous given the circumstances), he'll be 30 when he makes his return.

He never was a passer, his legs are surely getting older, and he won't have played professional football in two consecutive seasons. If I'm a GM, I'm not giving him a shot, chances are he'll have very little if nothing left.

agreed.

i wish him well.

I was never a fan, I always thought he wasnt a complete Qb, I agree he will be slowed down.

but never underestimate the power of a fresh perspective, and desire.

If Kerry Collins can still be talked about, the right situation is out there for Vick....professionally and personally.

lets hope he doesnt blow it.

Yeah, but to be fair...drunk driving for Collins vs. dogfighting and torturing animals for Vick...big leap between the two.

Especially when one includes lying to the current commissioner about it, and this is one that's proved to have a long memory when it comes to these sorts of things thus far in his tenure.

I wasnt comparing the two crimes, although i do disagree that drunk driving isnt a big deal.

I was more saying....look how many times collins was counted out and all the times it would have been easy for him to hang them up. easy outs.

Vick will have people knocking on his door. he will be pursued. People will want him. In many ways I think his initial return will be easier than Collins. The sheer interest of watching Vick on the field again, and the curiosity factor will have people in the leagues and in the fan base interested.

buzzworthy at the very very least.

Fair enough, although I certainly wasn't implying that drunk driving isn't a big deal, just in comparison to what Vick did, it pales in comparison.

That said, what NFL OWNER, GM, but owner is going to want to deal with the hullabaloo (yep, there's a $10 word for ya ) that is going to come with this signing in terms of PETA protests, local backlash, etc?

i think there would be plenty.

if Pacman was a wanted commodity, vick at a more important position for some team will be an even more wanted one.

Unless the drunk driver kills someone, then it by far overshadows dogfighting, even with the torture. Obviously, Collins didn't, and I'm not implying he did kill anyone, but the crime itself had far more potential ramifications than fighting dogs.
He'll get a shot, there are GM's who'll hire anyone, regardless of the baggage they bring with them...Snyder, Al Davis, Bruce Allen, Jerry Jones, Phil Savage..among others. they wouldn't care if he hacked the dogs up and served them to guests, they'd bring him in for the ticket sales alone.
