Julio Jones would be a kick in the nuts... Peterson is just a much better player.

Ballsy pick with Jimmy Smith. It could happen.

Agreed. That was the biggest thing that stood out the most to me. I could very much see it happening.

Jones over Peterson would be, IMO, an awful decision. I don't think Heckert would pass on Peteron.

I think that Jones can help a team with lousy wrs more than Peterson can help a team with pretty good corners. Some people love Peterson, but there's a lot of really talented players in the top ten, so to me you should pick the one that helps you the most.

There is no worse gamble in the Top 10 than a wide receiver, because of the nature of the position. They need another position to function at least reasonably well in order for them to do anything. As a result, if you are going to take a wide receiver, you better be very, very sure that you are going to hit on that pick because there is a long list of busts from that position. In my opinion, there is a huge drop off from A.J. Green to Julio Jones.

If the Browns were to pick Patrick Peterson and he does well for them and Haden continues to do well, the Browns create an enormous mismatch for teams because it allows the rest of the defense much more freedom and more importantly, Peterson plays better with a good pass rush, but he can still function at a high level without any help and is just a substantially better player than Julio Jones.

I'd go Peterson over Jones any day of the week.

Twice next Thursday night if I had the opportunity :D

But seriously, unless Peterson and Green are both off the board, and Dareus doesn't miraculously slip to us, Jones isn't on the card.

This I like!

Amukamara to the Lions and Kerrigan to the Bucs? That is what I'm talking about, right there.

But,

the Lions CB is not so depleted that it needs another one in the 2nd round. If Prince becomes the #1 he should be, than Houston makes a great #2, and Smith and so on can play the other roles. The Lions need more than two CB's, then need linebackers and a pass rush.

probably what happened there is I forgot I gave the lions Amukamara in the first! :o

Maybe what I'd have done then is give the Lions Ijalana and leave the Raiders to pound sand.

Very ballsy indeed to see SF move up. I like it!

I like Jones to the Browns too. A lot of people seem to have them (Green and Jones) as very close in talent.

How happy would Tennessee be to see Peterson fall to them?

I like Smith to Dallas.

Jimmy Smith to Houston seems like a little stretch as he has fallen down boards the past couple of months, but it could still happen.

I like the Mallett pick to the Dolphins.

It still floors me how Ingram falls all the way to the Pats’ second pick though.

I do think Cleveland has to go D line with that second rounder and I don’t like Harris to Dallas.

It surprises me to see Stanzi all the way up there to Tennessee. Do you think he will go that high? Have you been reading stuff to suggest that teams are looking at him there?

Kaepernick would be a nice get for the Skins. I would hate to face him in about three years.

Fairley, Wilkerson, Moore and Carter to Denver. I imagine there would be a party at your house if that happened and I can’t blame you.

There are other picks in the second I like too: Patrick to Jax, Baldwin to SD, Wilson to TB, Young to Baltimore and Little to GB.

I think it would be cool if things shook out that way except for Dallas as I wish you had them getting Moore instead of Harris.

Oh, btw, Ponder at #12? Seriously?

I like Jones to the Browns too. A lot of people seem to have them (Green and Jones) as very close in talent.
And I have no idea why... A.J. Green is better than Julio Jones at everything except blocking and weighing more. That's it.

Green plays faster, has better hands, runs better routes, is more productive, is taller, and is a bigger threat. Green is talked about by most people as the best receiving prospect since Calvin Johnson. Charlie Casserly went as far as having him ranked ahead of every receiver except Calvin and Andre Johnson, so Green was ahead of Fitzgerald and a ton of other talented receiving prospects. Julio Jones is not even in the conversation. For me, personally, had he declared, I would have Justin Blackmon ranked ahead of Jones too, so I think it is a big gap between the Green and Jones. None of this is to say Jones cannot be a good player, but certainly not the prospect Green is or Patrick Peterson.

Very ballsy indeed to see SF move up. I like it!

I like Jones to the Browns too. A lot of people seem to have them (Green and Jones) as very close in talent.

One thing that really perked me up about Jones was Derrick Mason bringing him up without prompting on an ESPN podcast. Mason thought he was the most intriguing person in the draft, and it was clear that he thought Jones was incredibly talented. That a technician like Mason thought he was so special impressed me a lot.

How happy would Tennessee be to see Peterson fall to them?

I like Smith to Dallas.

I kind of wanted them to trade down and thought they could still get him, but I didn't see anyone who would justify a trade up. I think there's a bit of a drop-off there at Dallas' pick, so they should just take the guy they want.

Jimmy Smith to Houston seems like a little stretch as he has fallen down boards the past couple of months, but it could still happen.

I'd seen reporting that Smith was considered the number 2 CB in terms of talent, and that a number of teams were increasingly comfortable with his reputation and dedication to football. Today in ESPN's rumor section is Greg Cosell's take that Smith is the best cb in the draft, including Peterson. So that got me thinking about moving him way up.

I like the Mallett pick to the Dolphins.

It still floors me how Ingram falls all the way to the Pats' second pick though.

Just doesn't seem like he does any one thing particularly well, and most teams that have RB as a need also have other needs. Once I didn't give him to Mia, I wasn't sure who would take him. Even the Pats could let him go, because it seems to me that between Green-Ellis and Woodhead, they have a pretty good situation going.

I do think Cleveland has to go D line with that second rounder and I don't like Harris to Dallas.

I guess Austin is there, but I feel like there's not a lot of consensus with him translating his workout skill to the field; I had the impression that Dallas still felt its greatest need was at OL and CB, but would certainly defer to your superior knowledge of the Cowboys' needs. I don't think Moore is too exciting; he seems like a corner who can't play corner in the NFL, so he plays free safety instead.

It surprises me to see Stanzi all the way up there to Tennessee. Do you think he will go that high? Have you been reading stuff to suggest that teams are looking at him there?

Mostly that Kiper and McShay are always on about him, and we're getting close to a spot where there's no more potential starters to get. I guess it comes between him and Kaepernick, and that Stanzi was maybe closer to contributing. With Tennessee, having a smart accurate guy to run the offense might be job one, so if Kaepernick is more of a project I figured they'd prefer Stanzi.

Kaepernick would be a nice get for the Skins. I would hate to face him in about three years.

I figured that Shanahan would like his mobility, and if they didn't take him then there were no more options.

Fairley, Wilkerson, Moore and Carter to Denver. I imagine there would be a party at your house if that happened and I can't blame you.

I do like the idea of Denver trading down to 5, 7 or 8 and still getting Fairley. If they have to stay at 2, I think they have to take Dareus, but like a month ago, Fairley was everyone's number 1 pick, so now that he's everyone's number 8, I'm not sure I get that. He's still the same guy who dominated so many games last year. I'd be psyched to get Wilkerson too - having two top level tackles would fix so many problems for Denver. The other guys I'm less sure of. Carter is hurt, obviously, but I don't think Denver's need at LB is as immediate as some. I'm not too psyched about Moore either, but if they don't get him, who is going to play safety? I was actually hoping that there'd be more obvious choices for Denver in the 2nd. Maybe Tennessee would be a better trade partner than San Francisco.

As for a party at my house, I'm hoping the party will be at Radio City Music Hall. I think the plan is that me and my brother are going to try to attend in person. We'll see how that goes.

Seems like there are a lot of WRs in the second half of the second. I'd be happy to switch your Dallas pick for you. Thanks for the comments.

Don't get me wrong, I like Green better than Jones, but if I am a team in need of a WR and I miss on Green, I would still be happy to see Jones fall to me. I may trade back a few spots to get him cheaper, but I would still do it. I know how risky drafting a WR in the top of the first round is. I did an article on it last year.

Oh, btw, Ponder at #12? Seriously?

Nicked this crazy idea off of Matt Williamson. He just loves Ponder for Minnesota, and never shuts up about it. I'm not sure what QB fits there better, and if they don't take someone in the first, I'm not sure who is there for them in the second.

Mason thought he was the most intriguing person in the draft, and it was clear that he thought Jones was incredibly talented. That a technician like Mason thought he was so special impressed me a lot.

I would have to agree with that. If Mason has good things to say about him, you have to respect that.

I kind of wanted them to trade down and thought they could still get him, but I didn't see anyone who would justify a trade up. I think there's a bit of a drop-off there at Dallas' pick, so they should just take the guy they want.

I agree that they should just stay there. They know they want him and I think he become a quality LT eventually.

Today in ESPN's rumor section is Greg Cosell's take that Smith is the best cb in the draft, including Peterson. So that got me thinking about moving him way up.

I have my doubts about Smith, but this CB class isn’t very deep IMO.

I would be surprised to see NO pass on him. They could address those D line problems later because there is depth at those positions in the draft. I agree that the Pats would let him go.

Well, first of all you fixed part of the O line problem with your first selection. I don’t feel CB is as big of a concern as people make it out to be. Jenkins has the ability to be a good corner is he gets his head on straight. I feel the complete lack of ANY quality at safety is what has been the problem. If they have a fast guy back there who can cover and provide help over the top, that would improve a lot.

I would like to see this happen and Stanzi might see the field sooner rather than later with Collins history of injuries and age. He would be more ready to do it than Kaepernick.

I do like the idea of Denver trading down to 5, 7 or 8 and still getting Fairley. I think those four picks would provide a good foundation for that defense. Good luck with your plans to try and attend RCMH.

Seems like there are a lot of WRs in the second half of the second. I'd be happy to switch your Dallas pick for you. Thanks for the comments.

Yeah, it kind of did seem that way, but there are a lot of 3rd tier WRs with potential, so it is possible.

You may be onto something with Ponder going to the Vikings... obviously everything you hear pre-draft has the potential to be a smokescreen... but local radio has been bringing him up a lot as the Vikings target...

That being said... I don't think that a former defensive coordinator could pass at the opportunity to bring in a guy like Akamura... That would be too tempting... But also the perfect scenario to move down a few spots so a team can grab him... and the Vikings can get the QB they want at a much more suitable draft position.

I don't like it, because I will be extremely upset if Peterson goes a pick before Dallas. I like getting Harris in the 2nd, but I would rather have Peterson in the first since he could end up solving our CB or FS issue.

I'm going this year, but only to the third day. I thought about going to the first round, but I've heard its a complete zoo, and my and my buddies have a traditional drinking game we do each year for the first round. Plus, the third day is much longer, so it'll make the 6 hour drive to NYC that much more worth it.

If you're thinking about going, you can reserve seats on this website, 1iota.com. They aren't 100% guaranteed, but it means you have a better shot of getting in than if you just show up on draft day thinking you can wait in line and get a seat.

Thanks Slurpee, my brother went a couple years ago but he had some in he doesn't have now, so I appreciate any help. I've never gone before. He lives in Manhattan and I live just across the river, so if we don't get in, we can always just go back to his place and watch it on tv.

That's another reason why I'm going on the last day. Last year, they were basically handing out tickets to whoever walked by on the last day, or so I read, and I don't want to make the 6 hour drive from Buffalo and not get in. That would really suck. I have tickets, but like I said, they aren't 100% guaranteed because its a free event, but according to the tickets, as long as I show up by the time on the ticket, I have a spot.
