I was clicking around my FF league and saw this. He negotiated his own 1-year extension through 2010 and will retire afterwards. I'm guessing the bills will all be paid off

He's been back for what, two years now?

That'll be four seasons played after taking one season off. Not a terrible career by any stretch.

Yeah but it was on his terms he obviously just doesn't love the game. Whatever works for him as long as he does it right this time.

His passion for the game has been a question for a real long time. I think he really got blitzkrieged when the Saints drafted him in 99 with all the hype around the organization and all the media attention. Despite the ups and downs of his career, you can't argue that the guy had talent and that he was one of the best backs in the league for a few seasons.

Sorry...no weed jokes from me.

Maybe not a terrible career, but a very disappointing one, that's for sure.

People can talk all of crap in the world about Brett Favre all they want for his indecisiveness, but Ricky literally retired right before the season on the Dolphins after the draft basically leaving them without any answers. They were a playoff team at the time and really went into the hole after that, because he was their main weapon.

The guy's passion for the game simply hasn't been strong since that season and he's never been the same since retiring. The guy might have been HOF material, but will not be remembered mainly as a pot head where people will say "what could have been?" Not a bad guy, but definitely a guy whose indecisiveness really hurt his career.

I'm just shocked he is still in Miami. I'd figure some old mobster or a Cuban hitman would have rubbed him out by now. Miami fans must be very forgiving. If that happened in Jersey we would have run him out of town of Hoffa'd his butt.

Wasn't that the season they had just drafted Ronnie Brown #2, or was he drafted the following year? I don't remember for sure, but I thought they had Brown in place.

Brown was drafted the following year. Minor started the season that year I think.

Yeah it was an insane combo of backs starting that year. minor who used to be a great backup, Brock Forsey, who actually played very well but only started one week and is now out of the league, Lamar Gordon(or something like that) who plays for the Eagles now... Sammy Morris started a few games too I think.

Brown was the next year

I don't know what that has to do with being indecisive. It's not like he said, "I'm thinking about retiring, but I'm not sure." He had also tested positive for MJ and violated the league's SAP that May. He was facing a four game suspension anyway. Sure it sucked that he retired all of a sudden on the team, but it was more of a shock that he did it rather than him toying with them. You can't fault him completely considering his social anxiety disorder and depression.
