A lot of hate for Spurrier's gamecocks...do they reach a bowl game this year?

Let's a take look at their schedule:

2009 Schedule/Results
DATE OPPONENT TV TIME (ET)
9/03 @ North Carolina State
9/12 @ Georgia
9/19 Florida Atlantic
9/24 Mississippi
10/03 South Carolina State
10/10 Kentucky
10/17 @ Alabama
10/24 Vanderbilt
10/31 @ Tennessee
11/07 @ Arkansas
11/14 Florida
11/28 Clemson

They could lose all of their road games although Spurrier tends to own Tennessee and Georgia throughout his career. I'll say he goes 2-3 in the road games beating 2 of NC State, Tennessee, Georgia, and Arkansas. SC State, FAU(could be a trap game), Vandy, and Kentucky they SHOULD win. They should lose to Florida, but if they are struggling to make a bowl game and Spurrier's job's in jeopardy don't be surprised to see that game be a close battle. Clemson is a toss up in South Carolina.

So overall I see 6 or 7 wins with the potential of 8, so on the low end of making a bowl.

If South carolina got say 5 wins....would they really fire spurrier?

I mean I know HE could walk...but would they fire him?

I think he'd be more likely to walk than get fired.

And I think the university would give him that opportunity before dropping the hammer out of courtesy.

But yes, I think it's possible, although not likely unless Spurrier goes out on his own terms. He's got solid defensive talent coming back (i.e. Eric Norwood), so there's a chance this team can do something this year.

yes but they actually force him out? (whether via fire or resign)...would they actually commit to that?

I'm thinking if he leaves it'll be on his terms but I'm wondering if it got bad this year if they would actually pull the trigger

I look at the schedule and see about 6-7 wins as well. There's enough games on that team they can beat. South Carolina could be a huge wild card should they find their QB and stick with him throughout the year.

And to answer OSU's question: yes. If Spurrier were to only win five games then I wouldn't be surprised if he was fired.

9/03 @ North Carolina State-Loss
9/12 @ Georgia-Loss
9/19 Florida Atlantic-Win
9/24 Mississippi-Loss
10/03 South Carolina State -Win
10/10 Kentucky-Win
10/17 @ Alabama-Loss
10/24 Vanderbilt-Win
10/31 @ Tennessee-Loss
11/07 @ Arkansas-Loss
11/14 Florida-Loss
11/28 Clemson-Loss

I see four wins on that schedule as of right now. They lost a ton of talent on the defense from last year and if Garcia doesn't make strides this year, they will be in trouble.

I think it will be completely up to him. I think he will have a good enough season and with 2 straight very good recruiting classes, South Carolina will give him another year or 2 until they are upperclassmen at least. The only way I see him not being the coach is if they do win only 4-5 games(and go 2-6 in SEC) or if he isn't enjoying coaching anymore and just wants to hang it up. He does seem very frustrated with his 7-5, 8-4 seasons, so he may retire after this season. If I had to say if he was going to be back, I'd say yes.

Well, two of three years have been very good recruiting classes, but the others weren't slouches either. Since he took over, his classes have been ranked-23,24,6,22,12. There's no excuse not to see results by now.

Other than the conference and the fact that the guy just cannot pick a quarterback and stick with him.

One of those is his fault.
