Tip of the hat to TexecutedInTampa for the idea.

Should Bernie's #19 be retired?

I remember a few years ago a couple of us here flew off the handle when it was handed out for the first time in almost 15 years to Frisman Jackson, which was absolutely horrendous.

Currently, the Browns have retired only five numbers, including those of Otto Graham (14) and Jim Brown (32).

Kosar is arguably one of the franchise's most popular players ever, and very much arguably the second best quarterback ever to don the orange helmet beyond the guy the facemask was invented for (Graham).

So should the Browns retire Bernie Kosar's jersey number 19 permanently?

Based on popularity, perhaps.

But I think number retirements should be reserved for the truly elite players, and Kosar is not on that list.

23000 yards and 124 TD's? Emmit Smith has those numbers, and he has them from RB.

Sure, he was wildly popular, but he's not great, merely good. He's not a Hall of Famer and won't become one.

I think Mike Alstott is just as popular among Bucs fans as Kosar is in Cleveland, and I hope Tampa doesn't retire his number either.

So Brown, Graham and who? Groza, Newsome and Warfield?

I agree with rudi. Kosar is a beloved figure, but not worthy of that honor.

The others were Ernie Davis, Don Fleming, and Lou "The Toe" Groza.

I guess I could understand Davis out of respect, but not Newsome and Warfield yet?
