LATROBE, Pa. – Welcome to the varsity, Isaac Redman.
After he scored twice in this camp’s first installment of the goal-line drill and then followed that up with two touchdowns on short runs in the preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals, Coach Mike Tomlin was asked about whether this undrafted rookie from Bowie State could be what the Steelers are looking for in a short-yardage back.

So...
Redman looked good, but Tomlin wants to see more of him against what he's calling "the varsity team."
Hopefully we'll get to see more of him in that situation. Question is, does this guy have a shot at making this team as a short-yardage back? Gary Russell did last year as the fourth back and ended up being very valuable. Tomlin isn't afraid to carry more than three backs, because as we saw, they get banged up and he'll even use all of them.

Isaac graduated from my high school. He scored on his first HS play, first college play, and first NFL play. The whole town is excited about his play and we all have our fingers crossed for him. He's a work horse and will give 100% on every play. I'm glad he's being talked about and considered. After Isaac's performance and Vick signing with the Eagles 60% of the towns Eagles fans became Steelers fans. Redman holds state records for RB here and the school record for Bowie State

I was never impressed with Gary Russell's performance as a short-yardage back (but maybe I was just spoiled with The Bus all those years), so I hope that Redman can prove himself as one that we could use. Granted, he wasn't even playing the JV team when he was scoring those touchdowns, but if he can keep producing like that, Tomlin will find a spot for him on the team.

I heard they really liked that he's stepping up one on one with the starting linebackers in practice. No chance I'd go one on one with James Harrison. lol

Word on the curb from his family here in town is that he's still out of shape. He wasn't expecting a shot in the NFL so when he was called by the Steelers, he hadn't been working out. Once he's in shape I'm sure he'll play much better

Huge game for Redman tonight. Refused to go down on his 10 yd TD run and ended the game with 12 carries for 79 yards and a TD. Exactly what he needed to have a shot, but Logan had a huge game as well. Thoughts on who makes the team?

From the sounds of it, this guy.
Who's the current third back for the Steelers?

I can't find a depth chart anywhere but Redman started training camp as number 7 on it. His TD run is on the game highlights on NFL.com

It's Mwelede Moore, he's been established as the Steelers 3rd down back. He's definitely got a spot on the roster, he doesn't get enough credit for the work he does in receiving out of the backfield. The Steelers also have CFL RB Stefan Logan, who will make the team for his returning ability (which the Steelers have lacked since ARE left), but I've heard that he will be kept around as a receiver instead of a RB. It's going to be tough for Redman, but it'll be just as tough for Tomlin to cut him. He's performed pretty well.

Ya after Stefan's big punt return yesterday, he's definitely got a spot on this team.

As was Carey Davis, which is much more surprising to me.

The Steelers want to get him onto the practice squad. Not sure if anyone will pick him up, but I hope we can sneak him through.

Even though he made the team (I hope) this year, he's really gotta chill with the spin move lol... you notice on any of his big plays he does his power spin move like 3 times

Just in case you were curious or unaware game, Redman has been established as our short yardage back, and he's been doing great so far. I think he was 3 for 3 in the Falcons game, and for a team that has struggled in that area since 2005, that's stellar. I didn't see the Titans game, but I don't think he will be losing his job anytime soon.

Thanks man I do appreciate it, this entire town has become big Pittsburgh Steelers fans to root for our guy. I think he got 1 out of 2 on 3rd down last week against the Titans last week but he's been doing great. I have him added on Facebook as well, talk about a guy who puts the team before himself, he's got a great mentality. After he heard he made it he posted
God is good!! Ive been dreaming of this moment since I was 5 years old. I made the team!!! Can't stop smiling...
Thanks for the updates BBC, we don't always get the chance to catch the games here since they aren't always aired, good to have someone fill me in on how he's playing
