The first of three cruise control games for the Nittany Lions.

Game is on the Big Ten Network.. Looking forward to seeing how Jackie fairs, even if Penn State is really good. It's a nice test to see if the offense can score some points. I think we will.

Yeah, I'll put a few MVPs on Akron being able to keep it within four touchdowns.

Hawkeye
09-05-2009, 11:36 AM
If Akron had a top 70 defense, I would stake a few MVPs on them too.

Yeah, I'm basing this largely on the very tiny soft spot I have for my former school.

It's very tiny, and it might actually be a benign tumor, but it's there. You can tell this from the fact that my Akron jokes have very little animosity embedded in them, more playful nature.

I can understand that, but from what I know about JoePa's teams, he's not afraid to put up 60-70 points on a school. I think it turns into a 50-7 rout.

Evan Royster scores the first points. Almost had them on a third down but Penn State worked hard to get those points.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:13 PM
Horrible read by Jackie on that option. Third and long for the Zips results in a stupid throw.. Punt

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:17 PM
Yeah held them! Great stand defense..

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:21 PM
Stuck on the 2 yard line.. This isn't fun

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:22 PM
Jackie is crazy... He's flying out the back of the end zone and just chucks it up out of the reach of everyone. 3rd and 11 from the 1.. oh my..

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:23 PM
2 yard gain if anything, Sean Lee is great with another big tackle.

This punt will be interesting.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:24 PM
decent punt, good coverage, horrible penalty after the play. Way to shoot yourself in the foot.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:33 PM
Penn State scores again.. Zips with the ball, Jackie makes a nice swing pass to Allen.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:35 PM
No protection what so ever in the four-wide set.. After a first down, two losses.. another long third down

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:36 PM
Jackie throws a pick... Way over the hands of the receiver.. Stupid throw, stupid play, Penn State about to score again.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:40 PM
Clark throws a pick, Jacquemain almost throws ANOTHER one. Punting from the endzone again

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:48 PM
Clark with a throw just out of the reach at the side of the endzone. PSU settles for a SHANKED field goal and Akron continues to play it tough.

For as bad as the field position has been, the defense is doing an admirable job.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:49 PM
Chris Jacquemain has been pulled..

Freshman Matt Rodgers is in the game

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:51 PM
Whoever is calling the PSU/Akron game..

It's Err-Soo-Lin Not Err-suh-line.

Ursline, Darryl Clark's Youngstown HS

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:52 PM
Sacked.. Another punt for Akron.. This one at least on the other side of the 50.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:56 PM
SACKEEDDDDDDDDDD FOURTHHHHH DOWN!

Z... IP.. SSSSSSSSS!

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:57 PM
ugh... what a back-breaker... Fake punt, fullback goes right up the middle.

Joe Pa.. You're an ass..

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 12:59 PM
Almost another pick by Akron... I love the way this defense is playing..

PSU looks good Clark has had a few bad throws but most have been on.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:01 PM
PSU kicks a FG... I really am upset with Joe Pa on that call.. Really now, you are playing Akron, is there any need to break out hearts like that?

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:05 PM
Jacquemain back in the game...

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:06 PM
Okay more pressure but I think Jackie had enough time to get the ball away there.. Still, the offensive line is doing no favors.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:11 PM
Penn State dials up a deep pass and Graham played it perfectly..

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:17 PM
Clark has plenty of time and makes a nice throw for a deep touchdown pass.. 24-0 Penn State...

Still not a fantastic drive, still liking the way the Zips are playing on defense.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:20 PM
wow this offensive line is awful.. A draw right up the middle doesn't even go anywhere. I know this is Penn State, but come on now a little bit of effort from the oline

Joe Pa continues to be a jerk by taking a time out.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:21 PM
Another handoff draw run type thing.. That's not going to work.. And he goes out of bounds.

Third down again.. Let's throw the ball, Jackie will get sacked though

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:22 PM
Sticks a completion in the middle of the field, but it looks like we'll be just short of the first.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:26 PM
With fifteen minutes to throw, it's no wonder Clark can complete a pass like that.. Touchdown Penn Sate.. This is depressing.

It's 31-0 heading into the second half, baring a return on the kickoff, because lord know the Akron offense won't do anything.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:50 PM
Big return by Carter to open up the second half.. Let's go Zips!

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:52 PM
Jacquemain sticks it in there for the first Akron first down of the game.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:53 PM
Memo to Shane Montgomery, the inside hand-off is not working, or Jacquemain is just making some really crappy reads

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:53 PM
Michigan transfer Jeremy LaFrance with a nice move to get another first down.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:55 PM
GREAT catch by Deryn Bowser, took a hard lick trying to get a high pass in from Jackie. First down, let's put it in the end zone!

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:56 PM
Jacquemain tried to force it and it was almost picked off.. Easy Chris...

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 01:59 PM
LaFrance with a stellar catch down at the two yard line... Gotta go for it...

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:00 PM
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

That bogus inside give, only Jacquemain keeps it and is stopped right before the end zone plain

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:09 PM
Jacquemain hits Bowser for a 40 yard hook-up!

On the board!

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:15 PM
Great stand by Akron... PSU lined up for a long FG, decided to pooch punt and it goes into the end zone.. Time for Jackie and his boys to put together another drive.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:19 PM
I'm sick and tired of the inside give play, especially with Sean Lee right there waiting for Allen every single time.

Third and nine...

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:20 PM
WHOA

After a nice first down pitch and catch, a screen play sets up for some nice yardage, but LaFrance was up-ended and practically landed on his head. He's alright though. Stopped on 2nd, another third down, this one a little shorter though and Jacquemain sneaks it in

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:28 PM
Jacquemain slid, which is okay, but it was third..

Then completes it to Bowser on fourth, but he drops it.. PSU Ball

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:33 PM
Wagner misses yet another FG for Penn State and Joe Pa is none to pleased

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:44 PM
Clark with a beam of a completion through the Akron defense.. Hell of a throw.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:51 PM
Rodgers is in the game now... Lets see what he's got.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:54 PM
That'll do it for the Zips on offense today...

Horrid line play.. Jacquemain at least deserves a shot against competition that is more on the Zips playing field.

Proud of the way the defense played in the first half, but it was obvious that they were on the field way too much and it finally got to them at the end. They played very well and there's some good things to be excited about for the season if this offense can use it's weapons against the rest of the MAC. Good receivers, some crappy play calling with the inside give, but that might work better against a team that doesn't have stud linebackers like Sean Lee.

Wolverine
09-05-2009, 02:57 PM
Disappointed in Joe Pa... It's 31-7... There was 15 minutes left you are on the 20 and he throws the ball..

Game over.. But damnit Joe Pa, save us our dignity.

Kudos to PSU. Letting up that much is pretty nice of them. I've seen times when they didn't let up and scored 60+.

They did miss three field goals.. I think they wanted to score more..
