Jake Delhomme is 34 years old entering the 2009 season, two years removed from Tommy John surgery, and coming off a down year with a 15:12 TD:INT ratio.
His backups are Josh McCown and Matt Moore, so his job on the surface is not in jeopardy in the short term.
However, long term, that may not be the case. What will Jake Delhomme do in 2009, and what is his future beyond this season with the Panthers?

Jake produces. I like the backups they have this year, so I do think that Panthers fans have less to worry about if he can't stay healthy. I still feel Josh McCown is highly under rated.

I think Matt Moore provides tremendous competition for that job, though it is certainly Delhomme's to lose. As long as the line continues to poke those holes for Williams/Stewart, the passing game will take care of itself. Whoever the QB is, stats will be similar to last year.

If there is 1 QB who I feel is likely as poor a prospect at this point as Drew Stanton is that QB is Matt Moore. I don't believe he is any iminent threat to Jake Delhomme's job in Carolina. He was taken as a developmental value pick who in 2 years of subpar play from Delhomme and everybody else in Carolina hasn't sniffed the field. I expect nothing from the guy at this point.
Delhommes job is safe until next years draft when the littany of hyped up 1st round QB's hits the market. At that time it'll be hard for Carolina to turn one down.
