Ted Ginn put up respectable numbers as a sophomore receiver in the NFL (56 catches, 790 yards, 2 touchdowns), and they say it takes a receiver three full years to adjust to the NFL.

The question: will Ted Ginn Jr break out as a third year receiver in the NFL? Or will he be heading down the road of receivers like Todd Pinkston and FredEx Freddie Mitchell (yes, I'm pulling THOSE two out as an example) as a guy who showed some talent but never put the full package together?

I like the guy, but I don't like him has a number one.. I think he'll put up a little bit less than he did last year..

It's just difficult for Ted Ginn in the situation he's put in. He's best suited as a deep threat/screen pass type of player and Pennington doesn't have a good deep arm. Not having the strong armed QB limits some of the strengths of Ted Ginn Jr.

And even with the weaker armed Pennington, Ginn managed to put up a respectable 14+ yards per catch.

I think the biggest thing that will happen to Ginn in the next two years is the moment Chad Henne takes over as the Dolphins' starter, which will give him a big armed quarterback who can make the deep throws. That's going to help Ginn's game because he's really not much of a short yardage guy, he's not going to spend much time in the middle of the field, but if you give him a quarterback who can get the ball down the field in a hurry, Ginn becomes more dangerous. Then you have to give him room to operate or risk the deep ball coming over top, which opens up a ton of options underneath for him .

Well said Raiden I agree with you

I don't know if I agree with that assessment that Ginn suffers from a lack of vertical QB. Ginn is fast, but it's a fallacy to automatically peg him as a downfield receiver, when he wasn't so much so at OSU. Don't get me wrong, he got behind the secondary a few times, but he was less of that, and more of a catch and get into the open field and run away from you type of player. I dont think Pennington in any way hinders that

I disagree on that. Part of the reason defenses had to respect his underneath ability at Ohio State was because Troy Smith had the arm to throw the deep ball to Ginn, so they had to lay off Ginn for fear of him getting behind the defense. That made him more dangerous underneath.

With Pennington, there is no such problem, so Ginn becomes much less two dimensional and more of an underneath receiver you can jam without much risk if he shakes it and goes deep, making him much easier to line up against.

That may or may not be true, but you're speculating on why he was more effective underneath, but that doesn't change the fact that he was more effective underneath.

I'm not denying that, I'm just offering a reason for that, thus why he'd be more effective underneath if he had a quarterback who could throw the deep ball to make corners respect that particular skill more.

Put it this way, with Pennington in there, Ginn goes deep, maybe one guy goes with him. With Henne, or someone with a similar skillset, is in there, Ginn goes deep, more than one guy's going with him, which opens up stuff underneath for other receivers.
