FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Signs declaring Fort Wayne as the hometown of Football Hall of Famer Rod Woodson will soon be up at entrances to the city.

Mayor Tom Henry unveiled the sign during a ceremony honoring Woodson at Parkview Field on Monday, less than a month before his Aug. 8 Hall of Fame induction.

The program included Woodson's high school and college coaches — former Fort Wayne Snider coach Mike Hawley and former Purdue coach Leon Burtnett. But the 44-year-old Woodson said he was glad his wife wasn't there for the sign unveiling, because they would have both started crying.

Woodson was a six-time All-Pro and 11-time Pro Bowler during his 17-year NFL career, including 10 seasons with Pittsburgh. The defensive back played in three Super Bowls, winning one with the Baltimore Ravens.

This guy has always been my favorite DB of all time. A lot of people always liked Ronnie Lott and Deion, but Woodson was always the guy that I loved to watch play. I hated him for so long for so many years when he was with Pittsburgh. He brought hell to the Oilers for so many years, but was always so fun to watch. A guy that was a great CB and a great safety. Class act as well. It was great seeing him get a ring finally with the Ravens in 2001. This is great to hear that he is being honored like this.
