Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason has announced his retirement, jocklife.com reports.
"I have had a tremendous career and I played for two great teams, I had fun," Mason told the site, which shares an office building with Mason's agent. "In my career, I have been able to do everything but win a Super Bowl. I've had the opportunity to play on great teams and with great players. After 12 years, I have seen it all and done it all," Mason stated. "Right now, I am content with the decision I am making. All good things come to an end and I am ready to see what else life has to offer."

If they don't go after Bolden now, this team has no chance next season. Their management has really sucked as far as trying to find some help at WR. THey've got a good new young QB, so they really need some weapons for him. And hell, Bolden still won't be enough. They had better get on the phone and start making moves though.

I never really like him but he had a good career. Thought he should have stepped down a few years ago but he is at least leaving while he can walk so I'll give the man his props.

Same crap different year.
Mason leaving hurts the Ravens, a lot. But the Ravens always find a way to overcome their losses. Even I will say it now, the Ravens wide receiver group sucks. But that doesn't mean the offense or the team as a whole will suck. TE Todd Heap should be more involved in the passing game this year and I wouldn't be surprised if GM Ozzie Newsome went after someone like Boldin.
Mason had a great career with 10,000 yards and 50 TD's. He was one of the most underrated players in the NFL (and ESPN agrees (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/news/story?id=4272008&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnfl %2finsider%2fnews%2fstory%3fid%3d4272008)). Playing injured and never giving up, he put the team first. He will be missed.

This kinda came out of the blue. I wonder how much McNair's murder had to do with this, as far as how much it affected him.

You already exposed your homerish stuff on here a while back when you said that you would never admit that a LB wasn't that good until he was no longer a Raven, so spare me with the "same crap different year" garbage. Actually it's quite clear that there are several people on this site even Steelers fans that are more informed about the Ravens than even you are. And for your info, I'm a Ravens fan. I just call it like I see it, and am not afraid to talk about their weaknesses that they've had for years.
Heap hasn't been effective in the passing game for a few years now. Try again.
Their is literally no one there now. THey have no choice but to go after Bolden or Marshall now and again they'll still need someone else to help out because Clayton has been a big disappointment and won't be enough.

just pointing out the last three post were comical....
anyways, i have a feeling mcnair's death is one of the main reasons for mason to call it quits...

He still hasn't filed his paper work and in fact rumors are afloat that he is considering coming back. Just rumors though.

That was my first thought too, especially with the timing of the decision. Unless you're Brett Favre, most players make retirement decisions fairly soon after the season ends, leading me to believe he was planning on playing, until McNair died.
