TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- The NCAA has scheduled a teleconference to announce a decision on Alabama amid reports that the football program will forfeit at least 10 wins and the university placed on probation.

The teleconference to discuss the decision by the Committee on Infractions will be at 3 p.m. ET Thursday. No details were disclosed in the announcement, but several media outlets reported that the university will have to forfeit wins from the 2006 and 2007 football seasons that included players who obtained free textbooks for other students.

Twice in eight years......I think the phrase lack of institutional control could get thrown around then.

As far as I'm concerned no school should get sanctioned in any way until USC does.

Everybody cheats. Not everybody gets caught. Plain and simple.

Only half of those books had been colored in sadly.

Yep, that's what I try telling people all of the time. All of these Big time schools break the rules, it's just a matter of if they get caught or not.

My buddy had a few good friends that he played in HS with on the squad that played at Texas and still play there right now and one guy that was a WR at Texas A&M. He was going down there all of the time and staying at their houses that were paid for where they had big screen plasmas in there and the whole nine. Those guys couldn't afford that kind of stuff. Lol!

He even said that the guy who played WR was getting a check after every TD. It wasn't by the University of anything, but some outside people would make sure he got a nice little TD bonus. And that is just at A&M. Just imagine what the big time schools have arranged at like Texas, Florida, USC, LSU, and many others.

It's an easy rationalization to make, but that isn't true......not everybody cheats.

Ya I disagree that everyone cheats. Perhaps every major program cheated at some point in their history but I do think certain schools out there do not cheat or at the very least only commit secondary offenses without intent. It comes down to coach and AD integrity/greed.

But I will say, the benefits you get from cheating often out way the consequences, especially for the big boys, so why not...

No. They do. When I say cheating, that goes from major infractions (illegal players/fake grades etc), small infractions (making a call to a recruit when you aren't allowed), or even turning a blind eye to something that someone else in your university is doing to help you "bend the rules" a little.

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy it that there are still coaches out there who do it 100% their way and have a zero tolerance towards anything not considered within the confines of "legality" in college football.

You show me a coach/university out there that never breaks or bends the rules, and I'll show you a program that hasn't won more than three games in a season in the past 20 years.

Totally correct, People forget that at the end of the day this is all a business. You think the whistle blowers around this stuff don't get paid and break the rules themselves and accept pay offs? Shoot, that's how the world works in these situations. Don't ask, don't tell, and collect. There are a ton of schools that the NCAA could go after I'm sure.

Like I mentioned before what will it ever take for USC to get sanctioned for all of these scandals that have popped up with them like the Bush thing that has still not completely gone away and the OJ Mayo ordeal where things didn't go down the way they were supposed to.

I'll show you two. Hayden Fry and Kirk Ferentz. I can't speak for other programs because I don't know them as well, but I know Fry and Ferentz have been stand up guys that don't tolerate breaking the rules. If your grades aren't good, you don't play. If you get a citation from the police, you get suspended. Their players towed the mark or they didn't play for Iowa.........and I'd say we won more than three games in a season plenty of times.

Might the reason you are so pessimistic about everyone else be because SEC schools have been slammed with major violations more times than other conferences??

You're making these assumptions as if they are plain fact. I know what kind of guys Ferentz and Fry are. There's no doubting they are above the moral standard of many other coaches. But I still don't buy it that from time to time neither of them didn't maybe turn a blind eye to a booster giving a recruit/player a little extra incentive or anything else along those lines. I just won't buy that. I believe saying that some coaches are 100% honest and NEVER break or bend a rule is completely naive.

Not being pessimistic. Being realistic my friend. The "you follow the SEC so you might not know any better" argument really isn't a good one, I'm sorry.

Turning a blind eye to a booster giving a player a little extra incentive would be a MAJOR violation if caught......so no, I don't think Fry or Ferentz have ever done that.

I never said you didn't know any better. My point was that it is easy to be bitter when teams in your conference are always in the news for things like this. It's certainly a better argument than your "everybody does it" one. Use your head.....if everyone did it, there should be more parity in college football than there is.
