While Rich Rodriguez admits his offense wasn’t a very good fit for the personnel he inherited in his first season at Michigan last season, he’ll also candidly confess the spread option wasn’t the reason the Wolverines struggled in 2008.
“The reality was that no matter what system we ran last year, we would’ve struggled,” Rodriguez said. “A lot of those guys had never played, period.”

Seriously this is his excuse?!?! The defense had eight projected starters coming back. Sure the offense was decimated, but that happens at times. Minor played in 10 games in 2007 and Brown in eight. Matthews played in all 13 games. Carson Butler played in 10 games. Not to mention that had RR not brought in the spread, Ryan Mallett would still be a Wolverine. There were a lot of juniors as projected starters last year. Now extreme youth can set a team back when you have to play that many, but there was more than enough talent to do better than 3-9. I doubt Bo would have had that much trouble.
