CINCINNATI (AP) -The star-crossed Bengals are about to become HBO's latest stars.
The cable channel and NFL Films chose one of the league's least-successful teams of the last 18 years for its next "Hard Knocks" training camp series. Last year, the Dallas Cowboys were the ones followed through training camp.
Star-crossed Bengals will soon become HBO stars - NFL - CBSSports.com Football (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/11746290)
I might have to get cable tv back- or not. This could be good, or it will set back "Hard Knocks" about eight years.

No offense to Bengals fans in here because all you guys are very classy.
But why the Bengals for Hard knocks? The team has been in shambles the last few seasons and I fail to see how or why this was a good decision.
Teams that I think should have been chosen
Steelers
Cards
Eagles
Chargers
Falcons
Saints
Titans
Vikings
Bears
Pats
Giants
I think this list of teams right here would have all been pretty worthy to choose for this show. The Bengals should get their organization together a little more before they get the HBO series on them in my opinion.
Again, no offense to Bengals fans. I'm sure that some of you know can understand what I'm saying.

I would love to see the Saints on Hard Knocks. I think that they're kind of LOOKING for teams in which there are characters (just because you ARE a character, doesn't mean you HAVE character) to help make it more entertaining for viewers, as well as a bit of drama. They probably didn't go with like, the Pats or the Giants, etc. because there would be a lack of those things.
I also think the Colts would be a strong choice as well.

The picked a team from the 'heartland' rather than either coast, or the over exposed Cowboys. The great draft, Palmer coming back from injuries, and the impressive run in free agency also were big factors.
And finally, Steve Sabol wants to document the father to son aspect in relation to Paul Brown and his idiot kid Mikey. Read that on the Bengals website today, actually.
Its going to be an interesting year for the Bengals, Marvin Lewis, and the franchise overall. If the Bengals pull another failing season - .500 or below in my opinion would be abject FAILURE, Lewis is gone, and perhaps Mikey will finally realize his 'track record' is horrific for one reason - he's been calling the shots and is now the worst GM in NFL history by a HUGE margin. So large, its doubtful any GM in NFL history will ever 'best him' in that disgraceful catagory.

Well I can't remember who it was but one of you disgruntled Bengals fans actually went and proved that he was the worst GM in one our discussions.
The Bengals should be improved this season, but I'm not sure how far they'll really be able to go. I don't see their defense being that much better really. CJ isn't what he used to be and Coles is coming off of two disappointing seasons.

I'd love to see the Pats on Hard Knocks. Fat Chance In Hell:) Not with the HC who thinks the injury report is Jack Bauer level classified info!

It was lil old me, TE, that proved Mikey is the worst GM in NFL history, by a wide undebatable margin. I think those that initially dispute my claim were literally shocked when they did their own research and found this to be 100% fact based.
Most around here aren't counting on Chad Johnson this season any more than we did that idiot Carl Pickens in his last contract here in the 1990's. As for Coles...he didn't have the benefit of a quarterback with Palmer's arm, so for me the jury is still out on him, but I do like what I'm hearing around town about his work ethic so far.
We'll know what we have by mid October.

Yeah, I was one of them. I was pretty surprised when you showed the actual numbers.

I would like to see them get back on track. I like Palmer a lot and I like Lewis as well even though he should have been fired already.

Keep an eye on Simpson and Caldwell, both rookie wide receivers last year. Both have excellent speed, good hands, and very good seperation on their routes.
Its very possible the Bengals will use four wide receiver sets quite a bit this season...especially if Cedric Benson shows he can pick up the blitz and break through dime and quarter defensive sets.

i could easily see the Bengals being a decent team this year...8-8 again. they had a great draft (how many times has that been said of the bengals?) and addressed their biggest weaknesses with their first 4 picks (all excellent picks in my opinion)
So a team that has never been very good, has a good qb coming back from an injury hampered season, a crazy receiver, a crazier rookie tackle, an intense rookie MLB, a questionable front office and i say you have the makings of good tv.

I think we are all going to be very surprised with this years Bengals team, not just the 'hard knocks' program. Its been a quiet off season related to off the field crap (Hall's DUI not withstanding), and its been the best off season as it relates to player acquisitions this Bengal fan can remember, going all the way back to 1968.
Even Chad seems to have his head on straight, folks.

I'm looking forward to Hard Knocks this year. Cincy is intriguing....
CJ with his head straight should make it MORE interesting, IMO.

Ah come on Madams, you aren't really fooled into thinking that CJ has his head on straight are you? He's a constant nut job.
Listen to his recent interviews. Then he's putting tats all over his face. He's gotten more insane actually. These last few interviews are just his recent attempts for attention. He's finally realized that people don't consider him a top talent WR anymore and a lot of his fans and NFL viewers have written him off. He's just trying to make new attempts now to get them back, but the only real way to do that is to start dominating the NFL again. Not by putting tats on his face and changing in name publically and constantly talking about himself in 3rd person which has gotten so annoying.

The 'tats' were a joke pulled on the media. They wash off, folks.
And Chad says he's staying at Palmers home in July, prior to camp opening.
Yep, he's a headcase, no denying it. Thats the case with quite a few NFL players, and WR's specifically when you think about it.
Bottom line is hope springs eternal when its the NFL and the month is June, for all fans.
I think the single most important thing to watch is if the Brown family signs all the talent they picked up via the amazing draft they just had. If they do, thats a significant change in how they usually operate. And that could be the sign that FINALLY the Brown family GETS IT, as in how winning franchise's work in today's NFL.
On the other hand, if they fail to sign this talent, and we get the usual holdout crap we've all witnessed...a very promising situation reverts to 'same old Bengals'.
We'll see how it goes. Business is business. But the Brown family's track record related to 'business' is so horrific for so very long...you just don't know.
Being a Bengals fan is like being a Cubs fan....without the warmth and charm.
