Two fold question really.
1. Have you viewed our Commonly Asked Questions thread?
2. Was it useful?
Well, make it three fold.
3. Is there anything we could add to it to ensure that future new members find the site to be enjoyable and not overwhelming?
Thanks guys, we appreciate any feedback you can give us.

Thats pretty good. Its been around for a long time now.
Anyway. What consitutes a newbie? Because someone joins a board and you don't know them. Maybe they have been posting for 5 years on other boards or are members of many boards. Just because they are new to a particular board, doesn't make them a newbie.

Point taken, I was more referring to familiarity with this particular board. No disrespect meant :)

Yes I read it and it is very helpful..
Unfortunately I didn't think to look through it again when I had a question which I posted...
Just to add my two cents...I consider myself a newbie to this board altho I have been online on message boards for almost two years now..:)

It helped me, just one question. What is the difference between and avatar and a profile picture?
Crunked
06-26-2005, 02:07 PM
A profile pic is only viewable when ppl look at your profile. An avatar is the pic that would appear just left of your s/n on every post you make

Thanks, Crunked. Two more question, what is it when you host a sig, and how do you get the pictures of players/teams inot an article you write?

Thanks, Crunked. Two more question, what is it when you host a sig, and how do you get the pictures of players/teams inot an article you write?
Wow if you only knew who you were asking these questions of LOL, here goes:
Hosting a sig is when the image is stored OFF site, like at photbucket.com or other places similar, they are free sites that will store the image, the advantage is PSH doesnt have to use its database to store images for ppl, which would ultimately slow, and eventually crash the site.
Pictures in an article can be done in a variety of ways, cut and paste, is the simplest, you can use the html tags as another option. Outside of that I can't really say, there are probably other ways as well that I am not aware of, hope this helps.

It definatly does. Sorry about all the questions, I'm just new to all of this stuff. I've been on SeeBS for the past few years, and that's what I've pretty much memorized. This is like going all the way back to 1st grade. I'm trying to be able to contribute as well as I can, and I think I've got it all now.

It was very helpful, and when I have had a question that was not covered in FAQ (How do reputation and MVP points work, for instance? Which I looked for in the FAQ but did not find. Maybe it was my error if those topics are covered there) I posted a question in the Ask an Admin area and got extremely prompt and helpful answers. So far I am very impressed and happy with the way this site is run, as well as the knowledge and attitudes of the posters.

Thanks rjl8 we appreciate an atta-boy every now and again:) The MVP's is probably not in the FAQ as they are relatively new feature, but thank you for mentioning their ommision, we should probably get on adding them. :)

The most common questions were helpful. I still find myself asking if this site has a chatroom like nfl.com's "rumor mill' or "message board" ?
Crunked
07-12-2005, 07:29 PM
There is currently not a chat room, it was de-activated a few months back because frankly it wasn't being used, however upgrades in the site coming soon will add a chat room program......

The CAQ thread gave me an answer as to why I cannot send or receive PM's.
But the CAQ's did not give an answer about polls. How come every poll says I cannot vote on it???
Also about this whole reputation thing. I've got all positive remarks so far except for 1 negative remark. It sent me to the thread that supposedly I said something to deserve a negative remark. That would be the AZ cards roll call thread. I made 1 post in there. It was nothing negative at all. I think that some people just write up negative stuff on people or fans of teams that they do not like for whatever reason. I think the reputation thing is a crock and just a tool to be abused by people who do not like you or your team no matter what you post. Oh well, that's just my gripe for the day. :toetap:
'Tis always better to be hated for who you are, then to be loved for who yer not. :D

Well heres the thing.. If you make enough posts, that are respectable your going to get more good rep than one bad rep from some bad apple out there. Don't worry about it..
As for the polls, I imagine that its the same reason as PM's and member profiles.

I went into the members list to try and gather how many recruits I have had this week come here to PSH from either threads I have started on other boards, or thru PM's.
But the members list (by join date) is only recent as of 7-13-2005. It is now the 17th, and I have recruited many since then. I only sorta need this info for the July Recruiting thread, otherwise no biggie.
But why is it not updating??? :toetap:

I answered that question in the Ask an Admin forum for you, but here it goes for everyone else.
Only members that have over 25 posts appear on the Members list.

The site is a bit overwhelming, but in a good way. It was helpful that it's mentioned in some of the other forums to come check out this Welcome forum. Once I got the info I needed, I'm good to go.
However, Packer fans will still probably need you send an instruction booklet with non-toxic crayons included. :)

I also have only positive things to say about this board. It's been a constant in my life for almost 24 hours..minus the 6 hours I slept!
It is overwhelming at first, but like anything in life, you learn as you go.
EVERYONE IS HELPFUL! For newcomers, if you feel your question is not being answered, go to the "ask an admin" I was impressed with the swift, personal reply.
I am anxious to continue to amass points to explore more avenues on this board.

I have viewed the question page and YES, it was very helpful.
I don't think there is much more you could do except continue to encourage membership. B/C the site is so incredible, it will be overhwelming at first.
On a last note, WOW! :wow:

I noticed, you are looking for a signature, did you request one, on the designer forum you now have enough posts that you are eligible to get one, just choose a designer who's work you like and post your request in their design thread :)

Yup, I read the FAQ's and they are very helpful.
Let me just say this. This is the best and most well-run site I have ever seen. Props to all who run this site, and it's also nice to not see any personal attacks and cursing.
But, just to repeat an earlier question that wasn't answered yet. How come I'm not allowed to vote on the polls? Do I need to have a minimum number of posts before I can?

Geez, BigBucsfan, that's the last time I listen to you. Don't you know anything??? I had to post 30 times to poll not 25. Man, what's wrong with you?

I can actually speak to that kinda ;)
Reason it didn't happen right at 25 is the script that updates those types of permissions only runs once an hour, thus, it's not an exact science. It could be 26, 28, 42, all depends on when you hit 25 and how long it is in between runs of that updater ;)
Luckily, it isn't rocket science, so we don't need to be exact, right?

The FAQ section answered a lot of my questions though maybe if it included something more about avy's and sigs and I am still not quite sure about the reputation thing and how it works, I don't recall seeing anything in FAQ about it so that might be of some help also. Thanks guys for all the hard work.

Onceyou have hit 30 posts you are eligable for a sig or Avater.. the more you post ( more than just simple one liners) you can recieve more MVP's. As people like what you are posting they will reward you with Reps or if they feel your posts are derogatory or against the rules of posting here you could get negative reps.
Go to the mvp forum and read up on what is available to you.
