NCAA investigations into former USC stars Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo have been combined into one probe, a newspaper reported Thursday.
Investigators have been examining allegations involving Bush, a Heisman Tropy-winning running back, and Mayo, who was an NBA lottery pick after one season at USC.

Who cares now that they're in the pros? I'm not really sure what the NCAA hopes to accomplish with this investigation. If it's money then thast makes sense somewhat. It really seems like they're just hopping aboard the slander train.
If they were truly serious about having justice done then this case should have been investigasted, tried, and punishment issued by now.
Granted, I don't know ANYTHING about Mayo but I'm a little familiar with Reggie's.

You ARE alive! Where have you been? I haven't seen you in almost a year.

Just decided to post elsewhere. I needed a new home. Good to see you're around. Thomas directed me to this site. Looks good. Going to try it out.

I can understand the new home part. I would have directed you here if I had known how to get ahold of you. :)

The point here isn't that they're in the pros, it's the alleged lack of institutional control exercised by USC, which could be a continuing problem.

I get that but why is it taking this long? That's my whole issue with this. We heard allegations BEFORE Reggie was drafted. It's now three years later and still in it's probing stages. I believe there was some damning evidence with Reggie's agent back then but i'd think it's damning effect has dwindled off.

Fair point. I'd argue the NCAA's not known for quick and to the point probes, they're more into the let it drag out until sanctions come out of nowhere.

I'd like the ncaa to make an example of USC. Every year it seems there are stories of them giving players insentives to play. They should be band for a year or loose half there scholarships over the next 3 years. Either one would teach them a lesson. It has worked in the past with better schools why not again. UCLA was hit had in the 80s and the punishments have been weak ever sense. Fining them and suspending staff doesn't appear to be working so go for blood. And if they do not then just lift the band on paying plays and even the field for the ones that do play by the rules.

Because of that... the players end up getting away with it scot free. Maybe a fine will have to s going to matter much to Reggie's bank account.
What happens is that the schools get punished for things their players do. Reggie knew not to take money. Reggie knew not to hire an agent. The school in turn gets punished down the road and the kids who have worked hard to get where they are end up getting affected by it. The ripple effect is more negative than effective. Punish the kids when they're caught.
I'm not saying that if the school has something to do with it that they be absolved of any responsibility. Just saying... start with the kid and work your way up.
It gets tiresome hearing about this 3 years after the fact. What does it have to do with USC's team today? Not much really. Let's play some football.
