Reports: Steelers give Harrison new $51M dealby FOXSports.com

The NFL's reigning defensive player of the year just got himself a hefty raise.

Linebacker James Harrison, who returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown in the Super Bowl, has agreed to a new six-year, $51.175 million deal with the Steelers, multiple media outlets reported Monday. The deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

Harrison's contract is the largest ever awarded to a Steelers defensive player and the second-largest in franchise history, trailing only the 8-year, $102 million deal signed by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the Tribune-Review reported.

Nice.....play-making linebacker and with the Haynesworth signing, he only got a $20 million deal. I thought for sure that he would have shot prices up around the league- obviously I'm wrong for this season.

is this a one-time anomoly (sp?) or are the steelers starting to re-sign more of their defensive players rather than letting them go?

This is them re-signing them at the right time.. They know when to get rid of a player though. Some may wonder about Farrior, including myself, but they could easily cut him if need be.
