The Denver Broncos have the framework of a deal in place to trade disgruntled starting quarterback Jay Cutler to the 49ers, a source close to the team reports. The 49ers will reportedly send their first and third round pick in this year's draft (10th and 43rd overall), their second round pick in the 2010 draft, aging safety Mark Roman, and former first overall pick Alex Smith.

Talks accelerated after Bronco's CEO and team president announced the club was willing to trade Cutler after trying and failing to contact the young signal caller for 10 days. Sources report that the 49ers were the most aggressive in their offer to secure the young quarterback's services.
This is the end of a long saga for McDaniels, who seemed unable to repair a relationship with his new quarterback after news of a potential trade leaked. Cutler asked to be traded in early March amid rumors that new coach Josh McDaniels looked into trading Cutler for Matt Cassel, McDaniel's former starting quarterback in New England.Denver Examiner Online - Sports - Broncos trade Cutler to 49ers (http://www.denverexaminer.problitz.com/sports/broncos/20090401-Cutler-Trade.html)

This had better be an April Fools joke. And reading the rest of the article/paper it sure seems like one.

I can stand Cutler. I love him as the QB in Denver. He just needs to grow up.
Umm...the bottom. Warner not wearing golves becuase "God told him not to" T.O. and Edwards getting into a fight at an Ultimate Frisbee game with TO saying "throw me the damn frisbee!!" Sproles getting hurt being shot out of a children's slide? Really?

Didn't hardly read it, and yeah I missed most of that. Lol!
I really want to see Cutler in Detroit though. I would love to see him and Calvin Johnson throwing to each other and connecting.

And even if this was true, that's WAY too much to give up for Cutler.
A QB, a first rounder even if he was somewhat of a bust, a 1st and 3rd this year, plus a 2nd next year AND a Safety?!?
If this wasn't a joke, it'd be a total rape of the 49rs by the Broncos...Cutler isn't even worth a 1st and a 3rd...Alex Smith and a first should be enough to get this done IMo.

A 25 year old QB coming off a 4,000 yard season, a franchise record (better than anyone named Elway ever did) and a probowl isn't worth a first and a third? Really?

No, he's not...at least not worth everything this fake trade would be offereing up.
Not when you can probably get him for just a 1st at this point anyways.

If you have a basis for any of that, I'd love to hear it.

because it is evident that jay wont be on the broncos roster wether a trade can happen or not... whats going to happen if denver's demands are too high and no one is willing to give up the price for Cutler? What then? Keep him on the roster to pay him for not playing???
Teams aren't going to break the bank with the Bronco's franchise in the position that it is in

Well, you can chalk that aspect up to yet another way that Management has totally screwed this up. However, if 6-10 teams are competing for the player, it ought not matter that they all know Denver has to sell. Denver can move from GM to GM conveying what the last guy said was his final offer.
Not that I have any confidence that they won't screw it up. I mean, they wanted to trade him fro Cutler, why not for, like, Tennessee's first round pick and their seventh or some stupid crap like that?
We're going to lose a lot of games over the next several years.

Well yeah, I'm just saying teams aren't going to go out of their way on intial offers, much less throughout the process...the 6-10 teams involved obviously know Cutler won't be in Denver so I doubt anything rediculous will be offered, there could always be that one crazy team though that's willing to brake the bank though

We'll see. There really haven't been any players as valuable as Cutler ever traded in the NFL - I mean, he only makes $1m next year?! - so it should be a huge package. But these jokers in Denver could do anything at this point. If they get less than two first rounders they have only themselves to blame.

You are out of your mind if you think Jay and Bus aren't going to ask for a HUGE new contract if he's traded.

there were players traded who ended up probably being more valuable than Cutler will ever be, but at the time they were less valuable. Elway, Young and Favre come to mind, but they were both unproven and had more value only in retrospect. Herschell Walker comes to mind, but he was a RB and the QB/RB value doesn't match. No proven, 25 year old pro bowl QB has ever been traded, because trading such a player is monumentally stupid. That Cutler makes less than a solid special teams player and is signed for three years really takes it to an even higher level of stupidity. If there is an analogous situation in the history of the NFL, I am unaware of it.

Of course they are, but that doesn't much matter does it? I'd give it to him too, but they you get to pick the cap ramifications and get to keep him for as long as you like. I wouldn't be surprised if Cook and Cutler play for $1m this year and renegotiate once/if the NFL goes uncapped.

Have you not noticed how much trouble Lawdog has been causing in the Broncos threads lately? He has been so abrasive and confrontational I swear that guy needs to be put down before he gets out of control. :p
