#8 Georgia Bulldogs(10-2) vs. #11 West Virginia Mountaineers(10-1)
Date: January 2nd
Time: 8:30 P.M. ET
Location: Atlanta Dome
No one would have thought the Georgia Bulldogs would be playing in a BCS bowl game after losing the core of players they lost over the offseason. 2004 Starting QB David Greene graduated and went on to the NFL; defensive studs David Pollack and Odell Thurman ironically was drafted by the Bengals in the first two rounds. Georgia was then projected to finish in the middle of the SEC East. Well, they proved everyone wrong and went on to win the SEC East and SEC championship.
D.J. Shockley had a monster year throwing the ball with 21 TD passes and he also rushed for 4 TDs. Shockley's favorite target was 6'7 TE Leonard Pope; he finished with 34 catches, 491 yards, and 3 TD catches. The Bulldogs also got solid play from their RB's; Thomas Brown, Kregg Lumpkin, and Danny Ware combined for 1412 yards rushing and 6 rush TDs. And then you got the tough Georgia D that was among one of the best in the nation. Greg Blue is arguably one of the best safeties in college football and is projected to be a 1st round pick; and All SEC 1st teamer Quentin Moses led the team in sacks with 10.5. All together, Georiga had 8 All SEC players which was the most among all SEC teams. Another one of Georgia's monster OG Max Jean-Gilles; many think he is one of the best OG's in the nation and could be a top 10 pick in the 2006 NFL Draft.
Georgia played good enough to win every game, but they just couldn't get over the hump in two of them. They were playing at Florida where they were forced to start their backup QB because of an ankle injury that Shockley sustained. They never got the pass game going and lost 14-10. But they did have some big wins over ranked opponents like the Boise State game in their first game of the season; they flat out blew them off the field by a score of 48-13. They beat a tough South Carolina team 17-15 and beat their arch rivals Georgia Tech 14-7. But their biggest win of the season came in the SEC championship where they beat the No. 3 team in the country LSU 34-14.
West Virginia lost a few key offense players to the draft in QB Rasheed Marshall, RB Kay-Jay Harris, and WR Chris Henry. So coach Rodriguez had some major work to do fill the void's these three guys left. At first, Coach Rodriguez started out with two QB's rotating in and out in Pat White and Adam Bednarik. Neither one impressed Coach Rodriguez enough, so he just kept using the two QB system until freshman QB Pat White pulled away. White provied the 'Neers with so much athleticism at the QB position, because the kid can flat out book it; he finished second on the team in rushing yards with 875 yards and TDs with 7. Their work horse at tailback was another freshman Steve Slaton; he didn't play much in the beginning of the year, but after his solid performence against a steller Virginia Tech rush defense, he started the rest of the way. His biggest game by far came in the upset win over Louisville where he had 188 yards rushing, and a school record 6 TDs(1 receiving TD). And at WR, senior Brandon Myles led the team with 30 receptions and 30 TDs in a system that does nothing but run.
West Virginia had many other players besides the big three on offense such as their two first team all-american offensive lineman in OT Garin Justice and C Dan Mozes; second team OG Jeremy Sheffey has been a solid contributor ever since his freshman year with the 'Neers; they are a huge part of why the WVU rushing attack excels. West Virginia had a total of 6 defensive players on the first and second team all-american list, so this team is really better than most think.

http://sport-it.com/sportscollectibles/georgia_logo.gifGeoriga Bulldogs:
*Stop the dangerous Mountaineers rushing offense.
*Get the trio of backs going- Thomas Brown, Kregg Lumpkin, and Danny Ware all need to get going so it will open up the pass game.
*Mohamed Massaquoi- The freshman receiver will be Shockley's go-to-guy when they need a big play...he's got to step up with Sean Bailey out of this game.
http://www.resilite.com/images/end_wvu_logo.jpgWest Virginia Mountaineers:
*Protect the ball: In their only loss, they turned the ball over multiple times
*Run, run, and run some more- The running game has carried WVU this far, so you gotta stick to it.
*Gotta throw the rock to win- they know WBU is going to run mostly everytime, so Pat White has got to make some big plays passing the ball.

I believe this should be a close game throughout the whole game. Both teams are totally different with West Virginia being a rushing team and Georgia being a passing team. I like Georgia's passing attack to get the job done in this one with Leonard Pope and Mohamed Massaquoi coming up big, and I think they'll hold off the WVU rush attack and win a close one 31-28.
