Fales has one year's starting experience under his belt at the FBS level after spending two years in the JUCO ranks, and what a year it was. He led the Spartans to a 10-2 regular season record, including a win over BYU. On the field, his arm strength is ok, with a decent amount of zip on the short and intermediate passes. His downfield ability comes down to timing and anticipation, which is the strongest part of his game. He does a great job of locating his intermediate throws where only his receiver can grab them. In terms of mechanics, his release is a bit slow, and his release point is lower than it should be, which could lead to more balls being knocked down. Overall, Fales could use another year of development and tougher competition, but has shown enough to be at least a third round pick in 2013 if he chooses to follow his coach out the door at San Jose State.
