NFL Draft Center - 2013 Mock Draft: Underclassman Deadline Draft - Pigskin Heaven

Welcome to the PSH Draft Center!

  1. With the picks used by the Browns on Josh Gordon and the Saints on bountygate, the first two picks of the third round are free.
  2. Round 1
  3. 1. Kansas City Chiefs - Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
Andy Reid comes into town and he needs a quarterback. He started with the Eagles with Donovan McNabb. The Chiefs have a great situation there if they can just find the quarterback to run it. Smith has a ton of talent and just needs to keep developing it.
  4. 2. Jacksonville Jaguars - Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
The question for the Jaguars is which spot on the defensive line to address first, because they need both end and tackle. The Jags go with Werner and hope he can be the franchise rusher they have been looking for basically since the team has existed.
  5. 3. Oakland Raiders - Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
Oakland has one pick until the third round and they have got to make it count. With needs all over the board, they need a franchise player. Lotuleilei could be the next coming of Haloti Ngata and be the center piece of Dennis Allen's defense going into the future.
  6. 4. Philadelphia Eagles - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
The status of Jason Peters is unclear at this point, but it would not be surprising if the Eagles decide to go in another direction at left tackle and try to fix a mediocre offensive line ravaged by major injuries. Depending on who you ask, Joeckel might be on the same level as Jake Long or perhaps even Joe Thomas.
  7. 5. Detroit Lions - Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
Here is the 'X' factor of the draft. Martin Mayhew goes by his own board and no one else's for better or worse. Predicting what he will do is difficult as a result, but the Lions have been looking for a big time corner for years and Milliner is not quite a finished product, but has the skills and potential to become one.
  8. 6. Cleveland Browns - Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU
Whether it is the 4-3, 3-4, or some combination the Browns desperately need a franchise pass rusher and it is all about finding which one. Mingo has the ability to contribute in either scheme with phenomenal athleticism and the work effort to pay it off in the league.
  9. 7. Arizona Cardinals - Mike Glennon, QB, North Carolina State
Had Taylor Lewan and/or Jake Matthews come out, it is likely the Cardinals pick them and grab a quarterback later, but as that is not the case, Arizona gets their quarterback now. Mike Glennon is a controversial prospect with some enormous fans and some big detractors and which quarterback the Cardinals take will depend on who is running the show there, but they are still trying to replace Kurt Warner.
  10. 8. Buffalo Bills - Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas
Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix has been scouting quarterbacks all over the place. Not only do the Bills need a franchise signal caller, they need someone who can throw passes that hold up the rugged weather of the AFC East. Tyler Wilson has a good arm and seems to be a good fit for Doug Marrone and the Saints inspired offense he brings with him.
  11. 9. New York Jets - Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
Since Rex Ryan has been in New York, he has not had a single reliable pass rusher. All of their pressure is created from blitz packages. Damontre Moore has experience in both the 4-3 and the 3-4 and in my opinion he was better in the 3-4. Rex Ryan will be able to change the entire makeup of his defense if Moore pans out.
  12. 10. Tennessee Titans - Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
Tennessee opts to rebuild the interior of their defensive line with the most talented 3-tech in the entire draft. Richardson is reminiscent of Gerald McCoy and he could really open things up for their pass rushers on the outside.
  13. 11. San Diego Chargers - Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
Eric Fisher has found himself as the 2nd best offensive tackle in this draft. The Chargers have been a mess since Marcus McNeil left due to injuries. Rivers needs a blindside protector he can rely on and Fisher could be a Joe Staley type left tackle.
  14. 12. Miami Dolphins - Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon
The Dolphins defense did much of the work last year, but they need more pure impact players. Cameron Wake has been fantastic and whether it is at defensive end, linebacker, or both, Jordan gives them a wildcard they can move around and let his athleticism cause havoc. Developed well, he has the chance to be a fantastic player.
  15. 13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
When the Bucs dealt Aqib Talib to the Patriots, it became clear they would be getting a corner from somewhere. Johnthan Banks has been a tremendous corner in his career and brings a rare size to the position much like Talib did previously, but without the other problems.
  16. 14. Carolina Panthers - Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
Carolina has tried to nickel and dime their way into a worthwhile set of defensive tackles. It has not worked. Hankins gives them a big space eater they can build around to stop the run and hopefully put them in more situations for their edge rushers like Johnson to get after the quarterback.
  17. 15. New Orleans Saints - Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
Steve Spagnulo wants to constantly put pressure on opposing quarterbacks and the Saints offense gives them plenty opportunities to do so. Against my better judgment, the concerns over Jones' spinal stenosis have impacted my projection. With a clean bill of health, Jones has top 10, perhaps top 5 talent. We'll see what the doctors find out at the combine.
  18. 16. St. Louis Rams - Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama
The Rams still have nothing in front of Sam Bradford in terms of reliable protection. Chance Warmack is a top 10 talent that plays a position that rarely goes that high, but he is the type of player that could be a game changer at left guard and could be the next Larry Allen.
  19. 17. Pittsburgh Steelers - Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama
The Steelers have had Casey Hampton for a decade and they need to find the next nose tackle good enough to be the centerpiece of their defense. Jesse Wililams is a tremendous player in terms of his strength, power, and technique plus he has experience in Nick Saban's 3-4, so he is ready to go as soon as they pick him
  20. 18. Dallas Cowboys - Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
If Chance Warmack was here, he'd be the pick. As it is, the Cowboys have found themselves a tremendous set of corners but do not have a good safety to put behind them. With new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin coming in after having Eric Berry and T.J. McDonald as his guy at Tennessee and USC respectively, Vaccaro is an unbelievable talent for him to work with.
  21. 19. New York Giants - Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
The National Championship did not change anything; it merely confirmed it. Te'o is a tremendous player and the Giants have put off getting a middle linebacker long enough. While Te'o's range is not tremendous, he is a great run stopper in the A and B gap and he can be the leader of that defense for the next decade
  22. 20. Chicago Bears - Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU
Offensive line would be ideal here, but without the value, Chicago opts to try to replace the soon to be retired Brian Urlacher. Kevin Minter was an absolute star in the middle of the LSU defense and the Bears look to go from one future Hall of Famer in the middle of their defense to another.
  23. 21. Cincinnati Bengals - Arthur Brown, ILB, Kansas State
A lot of people like Alec Ogletree here, which is fine. More likely the Bengals let Rey Maualuga suck elsewhere and Burfict move to the middle leaving a hole at weak side linebacker. One of the best linebackers in the draft will be Arthur Brown out of Kansas State and he can move into the will spot and really solidify the second level of the Bengals defense and give them a 3 down backer who can help against the pass
  24. 22. St. Louis Rams - Keenan Allen, WR, California
The Rams could use even more offensive line help if they deem it worthy, but the Rams need a #1 receiver for Sam Bradford. They have what could be a great #2 or maybe #1 in Brian Quick and a nice slot receiver in Chris Givens, but Keenan Allen would really give Bradford a nice set of weapons. Allen hopefully goes to a team where the quarterback can actually get him the football.
  25. 23. Minnesota Vikings - Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
The Vikings look to replace what they lost in Pat Williams a couple years ago. Kawann Short is a big, strong presence at nose guard with some impressive quickness who might play more consistently if he is put into a good rotation.
  26. 24. Indianapolis Colts - Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
Datone Jones is one of the best team players along the defensive line who does all kinds of things that set up teammates to get plays in addition to making a few himself. Plug him in right end and let him create opportunities for Mathis and Freeney.
  27. 25. Baltimore Ravens - Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
The Ravens simply do not not have a #1 receiver and that has not helped Flacco's development at all. Torrey Smith is a great #2 and Anquan Boldin is a wildcard type player. Patterson is built similar to Julio Jones and has a ton of upside.
  28. 26. Seattle Seahawks - Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
The Seahawks do not have a ton of needs, but instead, they have opportunities to improve. Russell Wilson has been great as a rookie, but he 'd look even better if he had a prototypical #1 type receiver who can open up opportunities for the other guys.
  29. 27. Green Bay Packers - Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame
Indications are Jermichael Finley will be gone after the year and the Packers love to add weapons. Tyler Eifert gives them a big time threat in the middle of the field to open up more opportunities outside and a huge red zone threat.
  30. 28. Houston Texans - Eric Reid, S, LSU
The back end of the Houston Texans defense has been where they have had issues. Their corners are solid, but they need someone to step up and make plays at safety. Eric Reid can be a big time playmaker and intimidator for them as a free safety
  31. 29. San Francisco 49ers - Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
The best fit for Ziggy Ansah is someone who can afford to develop him and the 49ers are a team that can do just that. Plus, if Ansah reaches his potential, he might be the next Justin Smith. What better team to go to than Smith's team. A defensive end set up of Smith and Ansah could be really, really good.
  32. 30. New England Patriots - DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
Presumably, Wes Welker's run in New England is over soon and while the Patriots have their tight ends and Lloyd, giving Brady another big time weapon is never a bad thing. Nuke Hopkins is a tremendous player that can stretch the field as well as make plays everywhere else with tremendous speed.
  33. 31. Atlanta Falcons - Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford
Whether Tony Gonzalez decides to retire or not, the Falcons are never afraid to give Matt Ryan more weapons. If Gonzalez sticks around, the two tight end combo of Ertz and Gonzalez along with Julio Jones and Roddy White is absurd. If not, they at reduce the drop off.
  34. 32. Denver Broncos - Tony Jefferson, S, Oklahoma
The Broncos have Rahim Moore who has flashed ability, but they could really use a playmaker on the back end of that defense. Tony Jefferson can do just about everything and gives their defense a ton of different options.
  35. Round 2
  36. 33. Jacksonville Jaguars - Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida
After getting their franchise end in the first round, the Jags come back and grab their 3-tech defensive tackle. Florida State had one of the best sets of defensive ends in the country while Florida had one of the best sets of defensive tackles. May as well go ahead and combine them in Jacksonville.
  37. 34. Kansas City Chiefs - Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State
With talks of Brandon Flowers possibly moving to safety, the Chiefs could look at add another corner here or simply give a better option on the other side if Flowers remains at corner. Poyer is someone who has had a tremendous season for Oregon State and might just find his way into the 1st round if he works out well.
  38. 35. Philadelphia Eagles - Matt Barkley, QB, Southern California
Matt Barkley has 1st round talent, but his fit may drop him to the second round. If the Eagles stay in a West Coast Style offense, Barkley is a steal here along with Joeckel having the makings of turning around their offense. I'm not buying Nick Foles.
  39. 36. Detroit Lions - Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
The Lions have a love/hate relationship with their offensive line. Their front office hates fixing it and people like me love to bitch about how much it holds them back. Cooper has the ability to come in at guard or play center if Raiola decides to call it a career. Cooper and Reiff may put their offensive line on the right track for the future allowing their running game to take more pressure off of Stafford.
  40. 37. Cincinnati Bengals - David Amerson, CB, North Carolina State
If Mike Zimmer stays in Cincinnati, David Amerson is the exact type of player he and Marvin Lewis get the absolute most out of. Amerson had a tremendous sophomore year followed by a less than stellar junior year, but he has Ed Reed type talent and Cincinnati may be the perfect place for him.
  41. 38. Arizona Cardinals - Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
Along with their issues at quarterback, the Cardinals offensive line has been a disgrace which is why they are replacing their front office and head coach as we speak. Lane Johnson has been impressive this year is looking to get more notice at the Senior Bowl coming up.
  42. 39. New York Jets - D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama
Pure right tackles fall because they are pure right tackles, but D.J. Fluker is a tremendous one and the Jets need to address that position badly. Fluker would let them get back to doing what they want to do; running the football. Between he, Mangold, and Ferguson, the Jets offensive line could get back to being a strength.
  43. 40. Tennessee Titans - Barrett Jones, C, Alabama
There is something about Barrett Jones that Mike Munchak could very well fall in love with. Jones is incredibly intelligent, versatile, and his last game, he did a great job against one of the best nose tackles in the country on a bum ankle. He just gets the job done and the Titans need that kind of toughness and effectiveness in the middle of their line.
  44. 41. Buffalo Bills - Alec Ogletree, OLB, Georgia
Ogletree has tremendous talent and athletic ability and the Bills have an enormous need at linebacker. Ogletree needs to play better assignment football, but he can fly all over the field making plays behind Marcel Dareus and Kyle Williams.
  45. 42. Miami Dolphins - Stedman Bailey, WR, West Virginia
While the value may not have been there in the 1st round, the Dolphins need to do everything they can to make life easier for Ryan Tannehill. Bailey was a tremendous receiver and would give Tannehill someone else to throw the ball other than Brian Hartline.
  46. 43. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
The Bucs have a ton of talent on offense, but they could really use a wildcard type playmaker in the slot and Tavon Austin can do a lot of different things for their team, giving Josh Freeman a guy who is a home run threat.
  47. 44. Carolina Panthers - Sylvester Williams, DT, North Carolina
Continuing to build the defensive line and put up more protection for Luke Kuechly, the Panthers add Sylvester Williams next to Johnathan Hankiins as their 3 technique to make a weakness into a strength. Williams has tremendous size and quickness, but just needs to play more consistently.
  48. 45. San Diego Chargers - Giovani Bernard, RB, North Carolina
The Chargers have struggled at the running back position after losing so many talented backs in a small amount of time. Bernard hopefully gives them a guy who can contribute as a runner and receiver like Tomlinson and Sproles were able to in the past to take pressure off of Rivers.
  49. 46. St. Louis Rams - Khaseem Greene, OLB, Rutgers
Every year it seems like a tremendous weakside linebacker falls for no good reason whatsoever. Last year it was Lavonte David; this year it is Khaseem Greene. The Rams have the makings of a tremendous defensive line but could improve at linebacker. Green and Laurinatis could make a ton of plays for the Rams in coming years.
  50. 47. Dallas Cowboys - Bennie Logan, DT, LSU
With the move to the 4-3, the Cowboys need a 3-technique to run Kiffin's system. In many years, Bennie Logan might be a 1st round pick, but because of the depth, he slides and Dallas is more than happy as their beneficiary.
  51. 48. Pittsburgh Steelers - Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
The Steelers running back position is currently a disgrace to the team's history. Going right back to Alabama like they did in the first round, they get themselves a tough, workhorse back in Lacy that will help them get back to the power football they say they want to run.
  52. 49. New York Giants - Margus Hunt, DE, Southern Methodist
The New York Giants did such a tremendous job developing Jason Pierre-Paul and find themselves in position to take another athletic freak in Margus Hunt. If they can have the same type of success they had with Paul, the Giants replenish their pass rush for the next decade.
  53. 50. Chicago Bears - Justin Pugh, OT, Syracuse
So much about Pugh will be about the medical check at the combine, but if he comes through clean, he has tremendous talent to be a pass blocking left tackle in the NFL and hopefully allowing Cutler to play an entire slate of games.
  54. 51. Washington Redskins - Matt Elam, S, Florida
The Redskins do not pick until the second round due to the RG3 trade, so when they finally get to pick, they look to attack a glaring weakness. The Redskins secondary has been God awful this year after the front seven suffered so many injuries. The players who are injured will come back. The secondary, especially safeties will still be there. Matt Elam is undersized, but someone who can play at both strong safety and free safety and give them some badly needed plays on the back end.
  55. 52. Minnesota Vikings - Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech
The Vikings need to do more to help make Christian Ponder successful. Adrian Peterson is carrying the whole team, but the passing game fell off of a cliff when Percy Harvin went down to injury. Da'Rick Rogers is a kid with some character questions to answer but he had a ton of talent and would have been competing with Justin Hunter and Cordarelle Patterson for reps at Tennessee had he stayed out of trouble
  56. 53. Cincinnati Bengals - Joseph Randle, RB, Oklahoma State
Andy Dalton is a fine quarterback, but not a franchise one. Banking on him is not what you want to have to do. Getting more out of their running game takes pressure off of him and opens up more plays for their receivers. Paired with BJGE, Randle gives the Bengals a dynamic runner who can also contribute as a pass catcher.
  57. 54. Miami Dolphins - Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State
Continuing to give Ryan Tannehill weapons, the Dolphins get him a tremendous talent in Escobar with a ton of athleticism and ability to catch the football. He might remind some a little of Tony Gonzalez, but like Gonzalez coming out of Cal, he needs to make a much better effort as a blocker. Gonzalez learned. Will Escobar?
  58. 55. Baltimore Ravens - Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State
Xavier Rhodes has simply not had the season he should have and while that will hurt his draft stock, he still has a ton of talent. The question is at which position? The Ravens opt for safety and look at him to groom into Ed Reed's replacement.
  59. 56. Green Bay Packers - Andre Ellington, RB, Clemson
Since the Packers do not seem to care if they run the football, why not give them a home run hitter who has a ton of speed to make plays. Whether it is as a receiver or a runner, Ellington is always a threat to score and if Rogers is just gonna chuck the ball around, might as well give him another option back there. Ellington is also a good blocker.
  60. 57. Seattle Seahawks - Chris Faulk, OT, LSU
For all of the success the Seahawks have had in the draft under Carroll, they have not had an easy time picking offensive linemen. This is an area they can still improve and Faulk, despite missing the season with an injury, has talent to contribute at tackle or guard.
  61. 58. Houston Texans - Kwame Geathers, DT, Georgia
Geathers is not typically the Texans or Wade Phillips style, but they might not want to pass on someone of Geathers' size and impressive athletic ability. Have him drop some of that weight and see what he can do, but he was athletic enough to play the 5-tech in Georgia's system at times.
  62. 59. San Francisco 49ers - John Jenkins, DT, Georgia
San Francisco's DLine is anchored by Isaac Sapoaga, who has been solid, but if he gets hurt, their next option is former undrafted free agent Ian Williams. Jenkins would give them a great rotation at nose tackle and a ton of beef at the position allowing Willis and Bowman to cause more havoc.
  63. 60. New England Patriots - Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana
It is the second round of the NFL Draft and the Patriots are picking, so it is time for the obligatory defensive back. Despite all of the attention, the Patriots cannot find reliable guys to play corner. If McCourty's conversion to safety is a long term plan, they could use another corner. Robert Alford is an athletic stud who played college at a lower level and someone that could surprise people, which is also very Patriots.
  64. 61. Atlanta Falcons - Willliam Gholston, DE, Michigan State
So much focus is on Margus Hunt and Ezekiel Ansah for their freakish athleticism. People seem to forget that William Gholston is somewhere in the neighborhood of 6'7" 280lbs and has the potential to be a beast in his own right. The Falcons have got to find answers along the defensive line for the long term.
  65. 62. Denver Broncos - Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern State
The Broncos need to find a nose guard for the future. They seem to have solid options everywhere else but they need some beef up front to help against the run.
  66. Round 3
  67. 63. Kansas City Chiefs - Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor
With Geno Smith in the fold, there are questions surrounding the Chiefs receivers. Will Bowe be back? Is Jonathan Baldwin going to turn the corner? How do they feel about McCluster in the slot? Terrance Williams gives them speed and a playing style similar to what Geno Smith had at West Virginia and someone that contribute as a #2 or #3 receiver.
  68. 64. Jacksonville Jaguars - Larry Warford, OG, Kentucky
While the Jags suffered some injuries, nothing about the Jags guards screams they are that good. Larry Warford is a mammoth with a ton of talent and continues the trend of building the Jaguars' lines to improve their toughness up front.

  1. Crunked -
Datone would be usurping Cory Redding at RDE....but maybe one or the other could make the flip.......I doubt the Colts re-sign Freeney but in essence I like the thought.....Mock Drafts=HARD....................................... .................................... Good work Peter.
  2. akronball -
Love the Mingo pick and even though i do love Gordon i wish the browns still had a second round pick
