Well, seeing as we may well not be able to write these things next week, I'm writing in advance of the end of the world, projected for sometime Friday. If it doesn't end, I'll be back next week with yet another sarcastic joke filled edition of The Mock.
- Round 1
-
1. Kansas City Chiefs - Geno Smith, QB, West VirginiaWhen starting over you are, a quarterback you must draft, at least it seems from afar. -
2. Jacksonville Jaguars - Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida StateOk, the rhyming thing lasted all of one pick. With Jacksonville, the biggest need they have is a quarterback. Seeing none (and seeing several will be available near the top of Round 2), I have them going in the next best direction: an actual pass rushing defensive end. -
3. Oakland Raiders - Star Lotulelei, DT, UtahThe Raiders are atrocious on defense, and Lotulelei can collapse the pocket on running or passing downs. Seems like a great fit for the Black Hole. -
4. Philadelphia Eagles - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&MPhilly really needs a new left tackle. I cannot emphasize how much they need a left tackle. They also need a coach who calls passing plays less than 80% of the time (seriously, Andy, the college ranks are calling). -
5. Detroit Lions - Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&MI'll just throw in here that I really really love the edge rushers in this draft and move on. -
6. San Diego Chargers - Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&MThe tackles in San Diego are just bad. This is another team in need of a major overhaul, and it'll be done under new leadership. -
7. Buffalo Bills - Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre DameBuffalo doesn't do much well right now. Te'o gives them a presence inside that will toughen up the defense and allow them to address the quarterback issues later. Mark my words, given that they may have been scouring this site for a QB yesterday, they do not intend on leaving the draft without a new starter. -
8. Cleveland Browns - Jarvis Jones, OLB, GeorgiaNot quite sure what the situation is going to be in Cleveland in two weeks, but for now, my Dawgs get a guy who can rush the passer. -
9. Carolina Panthers - Dee Milliner, CB, AlabamaCarolina has their franchise quarterback (maybe) and a franchise middle linebacker (definitely). Now they need to add the lockdown corner to continue to keep up with the (Julio) Joneses in the South. -
10. Tennessee Titans - Keenan Allen, WR, CaliforniaWhen your top receiver is one drink too many away from a suspension, you need some help. Keenan Allen can be that guy here. -
11. Arizona Cardinals - Tyler Wilson, QB, ArkansasYou can see a Quarterback Reach Right play coming from a mile away with Arizona and whoever is calling their plays next. They need it, or Larry Fitzgerald will not be a happy camper. -
12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSUPeter Smith likes this pick more than I do, but when you need pass rushing help, you call the guy with the most interesting first name in the first round. -
13. Miami Dolphins - Taylor Lewan, OT, MichiganIn 2008, the Dolphins took a left tackle from Michigan first overall. At least this time, they'll do it from the 13th selection. -
14. New York Jets - Justin Hunter, WR, TennesseeThe Jets were hoping Tyler Wilson would slide here, but he didn't. At least not this week (stay tuned for next week's crazy happenings, whether or not the Mayans were right). Instead, they'll start reloading the toolbox for whoever their new quarterback is with a great young receiver from Tennessee. -
15. New Orleans Saints - Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio StateBig Hank finally comes off the board at 15. -
16. St. Louis Rams - Sheldon Richardson, DT, MissouriThe Rams need a wide receiver, but none of the available talent fits here at the moment. Richardson is a potentially elite defensive tackle and would give the Rams one of the best young defensive lines in football. -
17. Pittsburgh Steelers - Jesse Williams, DT, AlabamaWhere hasn't Pittsburgh gotten old? The Steelers address a need at nose tackle. -
18. Dallas Cowboys - Chance Warmack, OG, AlabamaI may be giving too much hope to Cowboys fans here. Chance Warmack is a stud guard and they've be very lucky to have him here. -
19. Chicago Bears - Sylvester Williams, DT, North CarolinaThe Bears take a defensive tackle who can penetrate and play the run. Very critical if you want to stop Adrian Peterson. -
20. New York Giants - Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi StateIn a division like the NFC East, you can never have enough good corners. -
21. Cincinnati Bengals - Barrett Jones, C, AlabamaThe Bengals have struggled to stay healthy up front this year. Jones could play for them for a long time at a number of different spots. -
22. St. Louis Rams - Terrance Williams, WR, BaylorThe Rams can afford to reach a bit on a receiver here with two first round picks, this one from Washington. -
23. Minnesota Vikings - Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida StateGreen Bay and Detroit like to throw the ball a lot, and Antoine Winfield is getting up there in age. Rhodes could be a long-term replacement. -
24. Indianapolis Colts - John Jenkins, DT, GeorgiaThe Colts have a big need at nose tackle, and Jenkins is a big man...fits the bill I think. -
25. Baltimore Ravens - Alec Ogletree, OLB, GeorgiaWith Ray Lewis aging, the Ravens will need to stock up on younger linebackers. They also need to figure out what the heck they're doing on offense too. -
26. Seattle Seahawks - Kawann Short, DT, PurdueThe Seahawks could use some help against the run, giving up 4.5 yards per carry this season. -
27. Green Bay Packers - Giovani Bernard, RB, North CarolinaThe Packers have not had a back who can consistently tote the rock for years. Bernard is an instant upgrade and can contribute in the passing game as well as a receiver. -
28. New England Patriots - Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, TennesseeThe Patriots really need to add some firepower through the passing game, and Patterson could be a huge lift to them. -
29. San Francisco 49ers - Matt Elam, S, FloridaSan Francisco could use some help in the defensive secondary. Elam could play right away. -
30. Denver Broncos - Sharrif Floyd, DT, FloridaWhile the Broncos have been good on defense this year, they could still use some help up the middle. -
31. Atlanta Falcons - Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYUWhile John Abraham is still very productive, they'll need a replacement eventually. Ansah, while raw, could develop into that guy in a year or two and is very much worth the risk here. -
32. Houston Texans - DeAndre Hopkins, WR, ClemsonDeAndre Hopkins slides in here as my final pick to give the Texans a number two receiver who help them right away. -
If this is the end, good night, and good luck. If it isn't, well, I'll need some other crazy theme for next week.

gamefarm83 - 12-21-2012, 12:03 AMI'm cool with Long leaving Miami... but with Lewan play Right or Left Tackle? Martin, aside from a few rookie moments, seems to be playing Left Tackle better than he played right tackle in Miami right now.
Also, I watched the BYU SDSU game today. Ansah could be a stud -
gamefarm83 - 12-21-2012, 12:05 AMAlso, if the 9ers went after secondary help I personally think they'd be looking for a corner, not a safety. Would Elam be able to make the switch? -
Chris Raiden - 12-21-2012, 12:26 PMI don't think he'd have to. I think (I could be wrong)Donte Whitner'sDashon Goldson's contract is up after this season. -
Crunked - 12-25-2012, 10:03 AMcant argue with much for my Colties until I see the avaiability of the free agent pool this year 95% of their draft strategy will depend on what holes can be filled via free agency......like I had said previously I "feel" (yeah gut reaction here) they will target O-line with their truck loads of free money, simply because the risk/return on those types of free agents isn't as great as a marquee position you dump 40 mil signing on and hope..........although Grigson has shown he is not afraid to gamble, I just don't see a lot of that going down......a handful of 5-10 mil bonuses are more likely and you could definitely build an O-line with 3 or 4 of those types of scratch......and then draft the heck out of some defensive peeps.........
