With the draft a mere two days away, who's going where on Thursday. Well, here it is.
- Round 1
-
1. Indianapolis Colts - Andrew Luck, QB, StanfordObviously, you don't jettison Manning, Pioli and Caldwell out of town and then choose anything but your next potential franchise quarterback. -
2. Washington Redskins - Robert Griffin III, QB, BaylorJust as obviously, you don't trade away two first round picks to move up to number to take anything other than your next potential franchise quarterback. -
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Trent Richardson, RB, AlabamaGreg Schiano would love nothing more than to have Ray Rice back, and Richardson is as close to a carbon copy as you can get. Therefore, the Bucs trade up two spots with Minnesota, leaving Cleveland behind them. -
4. Cleveland Browns - Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma StateIt's been an off-season of misses for the Browns. No dice on Manning or Flynn, and not quick enough to beat the Redskins to #2 and Griffin. Now, adding insult to injury, the Bucs jump ahead and take Richardson away. From here, the Browns could take Tannehill, but won't, or they could take Claiborne, but that might lead to rioting in the streets as this team is desperate for offense. -
5. Minnesota Vikings - Matt Kalil, OT, Southern CaliforniaIt's not often you can trade down and still land your favorite dance partner, but that's what the Vikings do here, gaining themselves some extra picks in the process. Win-win all the way for the Vikings, who knew that their consolation price would have been Claiborne at worst. -
6. St. Louis Rams - Morris Claiborne, CB, LSUGoing into the draft, the Rams probably had Blackmon penciled in as their first round selection, but things have changed a bit. Instead, the Bucs land the top rated defensive player and can pair Claiborne with Cortland Finnegan to form a formidable dual threat in St. Louis. -
7. Kansas City Chiefs - Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&MThe Jaguars are desperate to trade the pick, and find themselves a dance partner in the Chiefs, who jump up the board to select their quarterback of the future. It's become obvious that Matt Cassell doesn't look to be in KC's long term future plans, so the Chiefs jump ahead of Miami to land a replacement. -
8. Miami Dolphins - Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi StateMeet the Browns, 2.0. Like Cleveland, Miami failed to land of the QB's they coveted during the off-season, and now we can add new Chief Tannehill to that list. So, now the Dolphins go one of two directions. They either find Matt Moore a new target to take the place of Brandon Marshall, or they bolster the already stout defense by adding a pass rusher that could take some double teams away from Cameron Wake. Defense wins it. -
9. Carolina Panthers - Melvin Ingram, DE, South CarolinaRon Rivera has made it pretty clear that unless a prospect like Kalil or Blackmon happens to fall to them, they're going defense. Now, they may have had their eyes on Cox, but he's off the board, and Ingram fills a bigger role than Kuechly would, as he is likely to play DE but could stand up and play linebacker as well. -
10. Buffalo Bills - Stephon Gilmore, CB, South CarolinaWord out of Buffalo is that the Bills are highly interested in Mark Barron, but I think that's part smokescreen to get later picking to panic and trade up. In the end the Bills to add a player to the secondary, but it's Gilmore. -
11. Jacksonville Jaguars - Michael Floyd, WR, Notre DameBasically a 'headache' pick, as Floyd could end up drinking his way out of the NFL, leaving the Jags with yet another black eye on their draft resume. Still, with Blaine Gabbert already widely called a 'bust', Jacksonville has to do what they can to get that label removed as soon as possible. -
12. Seattle Seahawks - Luke Kuechly, ILB, Boston CollegeThis is a good spot for the best inside linebacker to go. Kuechly has a high revving motor and is a tackling machine, but he just doesn't stand out as a can't miss superstar. That's alright though, because all Seattle needs right now from the position is a guy with a high revving motor who can tackle, the superstar route hasn't gone to well for them (see. Curry, Tatupo) -
13. Arizona Cardinals - Riley Reiff, OT, IowaArizona is glad to see Reiff slide right past Buffalo, who seems to not care for short-armed offensive linemen. Despite a coaching staff that features Russ Grimm, the offensive line has been a glaring weakness as of late for the Cardinals, and if they want any chance of keeping the 49ers defense off their quarterback, it has to be addressed. If Reilly is gone, I can see DeCastro or Martin getting picked here. -
14. New York Jets - Quinton Coples, DE, North CarolinaThe Jets move up two spots in order to jump ahead of the Eagles, who are also likely to covet the pass rusher. IF the Jets have had a weakness in that sometimes dominant defense of theirs it has to be the pass rush. They're hoping Coples ends that particular problem. -
15. Philadelphia Eagles - Michael Brockers, DT, LSUWith the Jets jumping over Philly, Ingram, Coples and Cox are now all off the board. But Brockers is definitely a worth consolation prize and very much deserving of this selection. Philly might even go with a cornerback since Asante Samuel may be an ex-Eagle as soon as Thursday, but Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie should be able to hold down their posts. -
16. Dallas Cowboys - Mark Barron, S, AlabamaThere's been a ton of hype around Barron as of late, but I simply don't look at him in the same light as safety prospects like Eric Berry and Sean Taylor, and I don't see Barron going in the top ten. The Cowboys would likely take him at #14, but this way they allow the Jets to get one over on a hated division rival and the 'Boys still land their man. -
17. Cincinnati Bengals - Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, AlabamaThe Bengals lost Jonathan Joseph last year but still have Leon Hall manning the CB spot, but not much behind him. Kirkpatrick makes all kinds of sense for Cincinnati in this age of football that last year featured more 5000 yard passers than we've had in NFL history. -
18. San Diego Chargers - David DeCastro, OG, StanfordThis is the man that kept Andrew Luck's jersey nice and clean, and he is the best interior linemen in this draft. I've seen him mocked higher than this at times but this is the same area that we've seen Iupati and the Pouncey's go in recent drafts, and I don't think De Castro is a better prospect (or worse, for that matter) than those guys. -
19. Chicago Bears - Dontari Poe, DT, MemphisChicago needs a line collapser that can help Peppers get to the quarterback, and Poe may just be the guy that fills the void. After an eye-popping Combine, Poe quickly rose into top ten territory, but it seems the hype on him as cooled back down and 19th sounds about right for this guy. -
20. Denver Broncos - Kendall Wright, WR, BaylorTennessee trades out of this pick, as they are looking at defense and feel they can quality a few picks down the road. Denver could also use defense, but feel teh same way about acquiring talent down the road. Adding Wright to Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker will give Peyton a needed weapon in the offense. -
21. Cincinnati Bengals - Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia TechI don't think Hill will be looked at too close by teams looking for a #1 receiver, he's a bit raw and not the greatest route runner. But with A.J. firmly in place as the featured wideout, Hill provides an enticing second option for Andy Dalton's offense. And Demaryius Thomas has already shown a Georgia Tech receiver can translate to the pros. -
22. Cleveland Browns - Jonathan Martin, OT, StanfordThe Browns already found their receiver, and will likely add a runner in Round 2, so now they find a nice option to play RT opposite of Joe Thomas. Cleveland is getting their offense prepared, be it for Colt McCoy or a new signal-caller next year, at least the offense should show signs of life. -
23. Detroit Lions - Janoris Jenkins, CB, North AlabamaAll together now, what do the Lions under Martin Mayhew do? They select the Best Player Available. Without the red flags, Jenkins is likely the top CB off the board, and a possible top five selection. With the red flags, he is now the 4th corner off the board, and based on talent, easily the best player available. Oh, and he fills a huge position of need, too. Seems like the Lions have spent more time with Jenkins than any other team this off-season. -
24. Pittsburgh Steelers - Dont'a Hightower, ILB, AlabamaPittsburgh never shies away from adding to the defense, and they just parted ways with James Farrior. Add Hightower to the core of Timmons, Harrison and Woodley and the linebackers shouldn't miss a beat. -
25. Tennessee Titans - Nick Perry, DE, Southern CaliforniaThis pick could mean one of two things. Either, the Titans are ready to call Derrick Morgan a bust, or they're simply picking the best player on the board. Either way, Perry will have help from the recently signed Kam Wimbley, so he can likely ease into the role of featured pass-rusher, a luxury Morgan wasn't afforded. -
26. Houston Texans - Cordy Glenn, OG, GeorgiaGlenn could line up at tackle or guard, though I would project him to better on the inside. Certainly the Texans could also continue work on their defense, one of the best units in football last season, but one that lost Mario Williams. This draft could be quite deep in defense though, and the Texans continue to help the offense. -
27. New England Patriots - Courtney Upshaw, OLB, AlabamaThe Patriots have swung and missed a lot recently when it comes to bolstering the defensive line, so here comes another crack at it with Upshaw. I see several options that the Pats might consider, making this pick all the more difficult to figure out. -
28. Miami Dolphins - Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma StateThe Dolphins take no chances here and finally add a QB to put pressure on Matt Moore and David Garrard. Miami didn't want to lose out to Cleveland for Weeden, and pull the trigger to re-enter the first round. Green Bay makes the deal since they don't see any must-have's staring at them right here. For Miami, this doesn't mean more than insurance, as they would draft Barkley in a heartbeat next season of the cards fell that way. -
29. Baltimore Ravens - Peter Konz, C, WisconsinThe Ravens need a center. Peter Konz plays center. Well, that worked out well, didn't it? -
30. San Francisco 49ers - Kevin Zeitler, OG, WisconsinThe Wisconsin Badgers produce offensive linemen, and this is the 2nd straight to be drafted. San Francisco doesn't have too many holes left, but they did lose Adam Snyder, and will draft their second 1st round interior lineman in three years. -
31. New England Patriots - Whitney Mercilus, DE, IllinoisDefense, defense, defense! New England is said to be shopping this pick, but with Miami already having jumped up for Weeden, there isn't a long line of customers for the Patriots, leading them to double up on defensive playmakers in this round. -
32. New York Giants - Doug Martin, RB, Boise StateBrandon Jacobs is practicing his craft elsewhere (though he apparently still likes New Jersey Turnpikes) and Ahmad Bradshaw hasn't been the safest bet to stay healthy in previous years. Doug Martin provides Bradshaw which much needed spellls and the Giants with much needed depth.

StevenSD - 04-25-2012, 12:42 PMNot a bad pick @ #18 but AJ has never drafted O-Linemen in the first round, the highest pick he's used on the o-line was a 2nd round on McNeil in 06.. besides that he's been good at plucking linemen in the later rounds. I don't see AJ breaking that cycle again, especially when he's gone on record saying he wants to form a dominating defense. -
Sascha - 04-25-2012, 11:17 PMAnd there's definitely defense to be had, just don't know who would fit well into the San Diego system. Selecting DeCastro make a lot of sense to me though. -
The Lion King - 04-26-2012, 03:32 PMI really hope you're right with the Jenkins pick. I think he's going to do very well in the pros, lets just hope he can put his issues in the past.
